I've had the latte for approximately four weeks now. I was surprised by the weight of the player; it has a nice heft, and not cheap feel that I thought it might. The screen is large, and video looks great on it. It's not HD but for less than $200, it does what it does very well. To test video on it, I took a DVD and converted it to avi, and it plays full screen. I also used Aimersoft video converter to take an Apple music video and remove the DRM, and converted it to WMV. Having to convert a video is an extra step that I don't really like doing, but at the time I bought this, Zune hadn't yet come out with the Zune HD64, and I will never buy another Ipod again....I've owned both and Ipod and a Zune. My 80gb Zune was dead due to some bent pins causing the charging cord not to work anymore. The only way to fix bent pins is to get a new motherboard which I couldn't do because Zune stopped making the 80gb players. In short, you can't really compare the Latte to the Zune or the Ipod.
The Latte doesn't support playlists, but I have found if you simply create a folder and make your own "playlist" that way, it works just fine. You just have to go under "Files" instead of "Music" and locate your folder with your playlist on it.
I bought a 16gb microSD card to bring it up 48gb, and that's more than enough room for all my music and the occasional movie for traveling.
I was impressed that it came with a nice leather case that has an easel so you can set it up for viewing. The headphones are also quality, and not the cheap earbuds I was expecting.
Unfortunately, like most media players, the battery is internal. It would be nice if players were made with removable batteries, like cell phones but I am acutely aware that everything these days is designed to be disposable....The battery will last for at least five to six hours of audio. I usually mess with the volume and switch to the next song (even in shuffle mode) so I know this eats up additional battery power, and I don't listen to it for more than an hour at a time usually. I've never watched a whole lot of video on it since I bought it so I don't know how long the battery will truly last on that.
There aren't a lot of wallpapers to choose from, and pictures you load on it cannot be displayed as wallpaper. This of course, is not a dealbreaker, but would be nice a feature for Latte to include on future models. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with this purchase.

I ORDERED THIS REALLY COOL LOOKING ITEM FOR MY DAUGHTERS 16TH BIRTHDAY IN DEC.09 AND AT PRESENT WE ARE VERY UNHAPPY. WITHIN 2 MONTHS THE SCREEN WENT OUT AND EVENTUALLY THE WHOLE SYSTEM. FOR THIS MONEY AND WITH ALL THIS HYPE, IT SHOULD NOT HAVE GONE THIS WAY. SHE WAS NOT TOO UNHAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT THERE ARE NO APPLICATIONS FOR TRANSFER, OTHER THAN WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE IN YOUR OWN EQUIPMENT, OR FOR ANYTHING ELSE, BUT THEN IT WENT OUT. WOW! WHAT A BUMMER FOR MY SWEETIE. AT FIRST, IT WAS SO COOL, STANDING ON ITS OWN WITH THE GREAT SOUND SYSTEM!

Have had this since march 29, 2010. Found out it is not compatible with my version of windows. I went to the lattefone website to try to download the fix for widows and only got error messages saying that this update is not needed for this computer. I tried on my computer and my mom's computer which have the same OS. I took it to school and tried with the computers there, they have windows professional, it works fine with those computers. I emailed product support and I got an email back about 2 days later saying they will email me again in 24-48 hrs and got another one a week or so later saying that I had a faulty USB cable and that they would replace that. I emailed right away to let them know it wasn't a faulty USB and haven't heard back, that was a week ago. Right at the moment it is in a repair shop because my friend ran into me and knocked it out of my hand and the digitizer screen cracked all the way across. Lucky it wasn't the lcd screen because that is much more expensive to replace. I didn't expect it to break because it is a heavy little unit and doesn't feel like it is cheaply made and I had it in it's case. So if you get this don't let it fall. I like this player, really I do, but wish they would have better firmware for it. Before you spend any money on this, if you have windows vista, go to the lattefone site and see if you can download and install the update, or be prepared to use someone else's computer to put any music or video on it.

Got this mainly for movies, documentaries, etc. Screen looks great and not small. Lots of space! Even without the extra 16G micro card.

Easy to transfer movies or video. Just right click my video files (in Vista) and send them right to removable drive...goes into appropriate place. Movies can be paused and resumed when chosen at a later time. Sound is very good

The new earbuds didn't work. They sounded like static or tinny. I plugged in some Radio Shack headphones and wow...what a nice sound. I own a small Cowon mp3 player (iaudio 7) which has exceptional sound. I can truly say that I am not disappointed with the audio on the Latte Cafe. Can't judge earbuds...but my 30 dollar RS stereo headphones sound great. I did listen to the sample song on the Cafe and it sounded good! Didn't load any music yet. Didn't think I would appreciate the sound...but now I will put music on this player, as well. Oh yeah...it has an equalizer too!

Love the leather case with the stand in the back! Thanks Latte for this very thoughtful and handy case! The clips on the case hold the Cafe screen well. I did have to bend one in slightly to have a tight fit on one side of the screen. Was happy that I could adjust it a bit. Telescoping little stylus...cute and compact. Can use it separate or attach to ready made hole in case and unscrew top to reveal the fine tip stylus. Keeps stylus portable and handy. You also, have a usb cord which can plug to computer or you can use the usb to little AC adapter plug that is supplied. Also, you have TV AV cables and a handy little netted pouch to carry your earbuds. Can probably attach the little pouch, to the case, too.

I checked out the text part and found that I could change font size and color. Might read some ebooks. Not sure how to add text files, yet. Hope that Latte folks will update this device a bit to include a reader. Yet, text reading will work well.

Wish this device had stated more battery life...but it is a bigger screen. I don't know if charge will last as long as stated. I just got the device and did my first charge...though indicator showed full charge out of the box.

Haven't tried recording...didn't buy it to record. Guess it's useful. Calendar, time and picture viewing are useful too. Don't know yet if I can add more wallpapers than the device has loaded. Still researching things.

All in all...I wanted a decent portable movie player with good space for plenty of shows. Got that and a good sounding music player too...at a decent price.

I purchased this player primarily to play my large collection of Mp3's. I would say do not buy this player if you want to use it mostly for music.
-With so many music files, it was near impossible to scroll to the exact file I wanted. Example: The player would skip from the J's to the L's when I'm desperately trying to access the K's. Apparently there is no search feature.
-The icons are difficult to translate and I'm constantly pushing the wrong button. I also kept accidentally hitting the Update File Library button, which would take several minutes to update before I could go back to my frustrating attempts to scroll.
-After turning on the power, it would take a good 30 seconds for the player to actually turn on.
-I was hoping for a feature where the player would shuffle through ALL of my music files, but I don't think this feature exists.

Other than that, I enjoy using this player for video. The screen is large and clear and the sound quality is good. I may keep the player for use as a video player only, but I will continue shopping for a music player.

I purchased this mp3 for my 11 yr old at christmas. My husband liked hers so well I purchased him one for father's day. The sound is awesome!! My daughter has the 8gb but i purchased my husband the 16gb. It probably wasn't necessary because he has loaded about 500 songs and has barely used any space. There are two things he doesn't like about it but my understanding is these are universal to all mp3 players. He doesn't like having to charge it with a computer. The second thing he is not crazy about is having to manage your songs through a computer. You can not delete a song directly off of the mp3. Those are very small complaints considering all we got in such a small package for such a great price. The touchscreen is great, but takes some getting used to. Overall it is a great value for the money. Ok, so I did all my research and this latte espresso WAS the best deal! Only 96.54 for 16 gb, while an 16 GB iPod is about 150.00 at walmart. Well "yay" for the price.
I got it in the mail and was supper syked; it looked cool with it's metal finish, it was touch screen, it gave a little buzz when you touched it, and the head phones where the cool gel kind that squish in your ear! Well here come the complaints...just little things that added up and made me dislike this thing.
The head phones, for every single song I downloaded, played differently in each ear... so if I wanted to share with a friend I'd listen to the singing and she'd listen to the bass. Also if it's in shuffle and you click to go to the next song and realize "Oh wow I liked that last song I was just listening to" and go back, it's a new shuffled song you'd be listening to. Although it was cool with a metal finish and you could choose the wallpaper- the font was white for everything, so in order to see your songs you'd have to keep it on black, instead of the cool looking rubix cube design, plus the metal finish made the espresso overheat very easily, especially in Florida whether. I'm usually the keep it on shuffle kind of girl but when I'm listening with a friend and they want a certain artist or certain song the little scroll down thing on the side did not work at all so I'd have to go through each and every single artist or song in this espresso, which I found quite inconvenient, plus the shuffle reuses the same couple of songs many times. OH! I didn't even mention the difficulty of the touch screen! Well... It's difficult and I don't even have fat fingers... the calibration thing took me forever and every time id click for the next song I'd accidently click the volume and other little things like that. Also, when you set the time it stays on military time and has no option of changing that setting. To get me through this ordeal, I just kept on telling myself "It play's music, that's all I'm looking for." But even that... I downloaded all my music before receiving it in the mail and uploaded it easily... blah blah blah but whenever you click "all music" a little bar shows up and you wait for this thing to load, to listen to anything. Even the battery life was terrible I'd leave it charging overnight and after about 4 hours of use the thing would shut off by itself.
Through these short couple of days I decided I'd rather save up about 30 more bucks on an iPod...You might say "Thirty, wasn't this amazing latte espresso only 96.54?" Yes thirty, when I bought the espresso I bought the warranty just incase any thing happened and don't forget the shipping! So in total it came out to abou 120 anyway....
This might be the thing for you... but I know for sure the Latte Espresso was not meant for me, good luck on your purchase!

Damn thing had problems from day one. The headphones broke in less than week. The battery life was subpar. The screen froze and I lost 1200 songs I had on it. I sent it in for repair and they lied about the repair time. I ended sending it back to amazon for a complete refund. I'm alot happier now.

It's not bad but lack's too much that should be standard. Can't create playlist or select specific genres (only Artist, songs & favorites). The haptic mode needs to be of in-order to select buttons. Fm transmitter is a bit week, granted it's almost impossible to find channel no-ones using but if a station is with one channel you lose.

....Coby does not support this player anymore..Consistant lock ups and non sync vid audio....Used the stylus over 3 times in 10 mins to anti freeze this device.
The only thing good about it was the detachable battery..If coby had stuck to this product and improved the firmware,they would have ruled this market..Seems like they bit off the "Apple" Ipod and built in battery disposables continues...

If you have Windows Vista, avoid this product because it will not work. Both the CD ROM and the instruction manual are not helpful, as they are not based on a Vista operating system. This past Monday (2/22/10) I tried contacting Coby via e-mail to troubleshoot my issues with using this thing, and so far almost three days have passed and no response. It turned into e-mail hell with the seller I bought this from while they were trying to provide troubleshooting instructions, but the recommendations the seller made were based on the instruction manual (as I already said, the instruction manual does not help if you have Windows Vista). If you have Vista, save your money and look for another media player.

If something magically happens and it starts working with Vista, I'll update my review and my 1 star rating.

I bought this player since I like to put my movies into media player so that I can watch them whenever I want to and I am also very interested in such state-of-art technology. The player surprised me a lot because 1. very clear (like digital effect)video display. ( I converted video into 400X230 resolution); 2. very loud built-in speaker; 3. there is a resume function and you can watch your video right from where you stopped if you couldn't finish watching it. 4. remote control is plus so that you can watch your movies on your TV and still can remotely control. Anyway, I have not found any setback for this media player and it is the best one that I have ever used. I love it so much and it can be used as an electronic dictionary too.

The only thing that bugs me is there is really no "how to" or support for the units. Once you figure it out, look out!, they are better then the ipod or zune. It's just the learning curve that bugs me.

I also have a Coby 20G MP3 player that I have dropped several times and the case is the only thing holding it together as the screws broke off when I dropped it on the cement floor and it works like a charm. LOVE IT!

I have had this product over a year probably. Overall it is pretty nice, I have looked at pictures and played music but not much. Mainly I use this for my young child in the car through the built in dvd player through the aux out or on airplane. I have never used it to record.

I can hold a ton of videos on this thing, probably have 40+ full movies, which I download from the web at about 700mb (.avi). I have also ripped my own movies to a 1.5gb VOB file and it plays them ok. Sometimes I have issues with the VOB playing... sometimes it will play for 30 minutes then freeze. So I have replaced most of my VOB ripped with clonedvd to the .avi's I have downloaded from the web. All of them play great.

Complaints:
1 - when using aux output the audio still plays out the player. Could save some battery life if it disabled the audio on board, and it is also a little annoying balancing the devices
2 - Can not resume a video at it's current location unless you pause the movie. Stopping it starts all over.
3 - It has a great option for turning of the screen to save battery when using aux output, but that option does not lock the buttons (locking the controls is an option on the same slide switch, but then you need to have the LCD on).

Overall I am very happy with this product.

In the slowly dying realm of audio and video digital recording, I wanted something that recorded video simply and easily without a dock and a million wires-this one does the trick very well!!!

This was a purchased cautiously because I didnt know COBY well, except as a DVD player... I am not disappointed so far, although I have only had it for a few months and have seen the other reviews. Ive already digitized some of my VHS tapes-one of the main reasons I bought it, you can change the aspect raio which is great. You cannot change any audio recording settings (in the video), so if you are recording a vhs or audio that sounds bad, it will sound bad on the digital file.

Im going to use this as a DVR, record some of my favorite TV shows and movies from cable and enjoy them on trips or during boring breaks at school. The screen is quite large, bright, and the pictures and video are great.

Cons: A bit big and bulky, heavy. But as a little DVR and a 40gb hard drive, I expected a little weight... (this wont replace your IPOD, but its great for those tired of looking at 2-4" screens while watching a movie!!!)

BY THE WAY, by all indications, all of these little audio and video (straight from the source) recording devices are becoming extinct-maybe because of copyright issues, get em while you can!!!

Great picture, but I puchased this unit because it claimed to play mp4's! It doesn't play mp4's!!! It plays avi's beautiful, but does not know the mp4 file type. If you don't mind converting your movies to avi, or that is the file type that you have... than this is the player for you.

I bought this player a week back, only reason being was tempted by the price and features. Thought I knew the reviews were bad but thought of trying it out..............Turned out to be a big mistake !!!
This piece of junk, didnt start at all !! I mean how bad a PMP can be !! Putting in and taking out the Battery from this giant seems a next to impossible task. Thanks to JR Electronics, they took it back. Over all, what a waste of time and this is a total piece of Junk !!

The file manager doesn't allow me to delete directories, only individual files. It doesn't allow me to copy individual files from an external source, only the entire contents of a flash drive, so if I have a hundred photos on a thumb drive and one movie, then it copies everything, but only allows me to delete files one at a time in the most cumbersome way possible. It has an interface cable that I've never seen before and is unique to this product and this produce only. A standard USB cable would have been clever and sensible. Oh, no. Don't use that. Make a whole new cable that will render the unit useless if lost. It gets quite hot. It can't play very many formats. It takes several minutes to initialize. It's slow. The user interface is about as user friendly as an Army supply sergeant. The quality of construction is about the same as the knock-off electronics you buy in Mexico. This thing is a massive piece of junk. If you're considering buying the Coby PMP7040, do yourself a favor, buy $170.00 worth of books instead. You'll be able to finish one or two in the time it takes this worthless pile of garbage to initialize.

My IAUDIO7 finally bricked. I made a big mistake and tried to fix it myself. It would have been an easy fix for Cowon but being cheap, I destroyed it trying the kitchen table fix. What the heck, it gave me an excuse to get the D2. The 7 lasted long enough for the (now old) D2 to become priced right. It was the new thing when I purchased my 7.

Anyway, I like the D2. It has the same great battery life like the 7. It handles any type of formated music. It is veeeeeery loud! The interface take a little time to get used to. It is a little to over done with options when you navigate but not too bad. I never used the sylus(sp?), just my fat fingers and I do just fine with it. Its a little thick for a compact mini movie player and the leather case I purchased made it bulky.

All I wanted was a veeeery loud mp3 player that sounded great, could handle a large amoundt of music (unlimited with SD cards), play a movie (small screen but viewable), not be dedicated to itunes (it handles it all) and have a very large battery life (not as good as the I7 but great never the less).

Find any IAUDIO on sale and give it a try if your not sure if this brand is for you. I bet you'll be hooked there after! My Son has the latest greatest IPOD and I still can't get him away from my D2! For fear of him destroying his ears with my super loud IAUDIO I keep him away from it.

I'm a MOTORHEAD fan. Yes, I like it loud! Lemy would recomend IAUDIO!

I bought this because a Korean girl i was tutoring had one. She swore by it.

I was and am still pretty ignorant about the latest in mp3/digital video gadgetry, so i went and purchased it. I was also trying to avoid joining the Army of Apple ipod users.

Well i got this delivered to my cousin's home in the US and now finally i have it in my hand. the delivery was quick and safe from JetAudio. Super saver shipping (free when i ordered) was available and i got this item through a special offer. Got it delivered much before the expected date. Their customer service is great too. responded very quickly to my emails.

I already knew this was a very popular player with rave reviews from experts but the price in my country, India was out of reach. so i got this ordered to my cousin's place in the US. Earlier i had a Creative Zen 8 Gb which also had a brilliant sound quality but mine became as good as dead because of a problem called 'White screen of death' or WSOD which is a problem with a few batches of Creative Zens. now my brother uses it as a 8 Gb card

Now my initial thoughts about my Cowon D2. I was able to learn most of its functioning pretty quickly without reading the manual. The player looks and feels solid. Mine is a black one, i wanted to get the White one but the best offer was on the black coloured D2. Sound quality is good with the provided earphones but one should buy a pair of good earphones to get the best music from the player. It gets very loud too with the volume level going up to 50.the touch screen is good too once you get used to it. A stylus is provided if you feel that using your hands will make the screen dirty. External button controls are minimal, so you have to use the touch screen more. It plays many formats though my music collection is 99% mp3. Comes with a lot of sound quality enhancements which are highly customisable. Videos look very good on this player but use it to play only short videos since it is impossible for me to stare at the tiny screen for more than 10 mins. Most of the videos i transferred required conversion and the
JetAudio software that comes with the package did a decent job. You might also use other software such as iriverter and Super@ to convert videos. While playing music you can see the lyrics too, for this you have to use a software called 'iaudio LDB manager'.

Pictures look great but larger ones take a little while to load. You can also transfer and view text files 'txt' on this player. another cool feature available is notepad which can be used to scribble something using the stylus or your hand a la MS paint. You can upgrade the firmware when new versions become available and it is very easy to do (Please read all the instructions before doing so). You can play Flash Games/Applications on your D2 but only a few of the games i downloaded work properly on it.

FM Radio doesn't work well for me because the reception in my area is not that Strong. I have just tried recording and it works well, i plan to use it to record lectures during my Post Graduation. I haven't yet tried the audibles audiobook functionality , most of my audiobooks are in Mp3 format whichof course work very well. i haven't yet added a memory card yet but i will be doing it soon since that was one of the feature that attracted me to this player.

The expected battery life is 50 hours (audio) and 5 hours (Video), now that is stellar, haven't charged after the initial one.

1) Would have been useful if a few more external buttons were added
2) The default earphones do not do justice to the music playback quality.

I got the case to save some bumps and scratches on my D2, but it does so much more than that. It looks good and is very practical. You holes for every orifice on the player right in the case so you don't have to remove it to use anything on it. Great product.

This is the best audiobook player. I also have an Ipod 80GB Classic and had a Zen Vision M. It leaves both for dead.
- superb sound quality.
- excellent bookmark function- 256 bookmarks. It returns to the bookmark and continues to the follwing tracks (unlike Zen which just stops, as do many other players, and windows mobile players).
- the touch screen is very nifty and the smart menus pop up nicely. Navigation quickly became intuitive.
- the standard folder structure makes loading books and tracks very simple. I am over Itunes and do not miss it.
- 16GB or 8GB or 4GB of internal memory, then an SD slot which means you can have as many SD cards as you want. bookmarks work on the current SD card no worries.
- excellent for music albums.
- the video function works well when I test it, although I am not interested in using it routinely.

If you're looking for the best portable audiobook player, you've found it. But if you just want to listen to audiobooks on your computer get ViddyMP3 for free. Or if you want to tinker get Rockbox free software for various portable players. I think the D2 is great for music too as its sound is clearly superior to Ipod and Zen to even my untrained ear.

It does not do playlists, but really who needs them? I mainly used to use them to work around Itunes bugs.(maybe I like compilation albums, but I can just compile a folder of MP3's any way I like).

Wishlist- on the fly erase & click for more details on the bookmarks (but still the best for bookmarks), playlists (OK already).

Tips- use the stylus supplied for navigating the touch screen.
- when you first ever turn it on, be careful as the first thing you do is set language and I accidentally clicked Korean!! It took a while to return it to English, ha ha.
- If you're not sure just buy the 4GB Black version [...], and later expand it with an SD card.

Note that Cowon also make the S9 which I have not seen. It is more expensive and uses a different screen technology.
