First big ticket item I've ordered sight unseen. Delivery was fast and within the provided time window. Rated 4 stars just because I haven't had it that long, and I'm unfamiliar with other models. The set meets or exceeds all of my expectations. I got an "S" panel.

Pros: The picture is very crisp even in standard definition and lower frequencies. The HD sometimes has an almost 3D effect. I've never had HD before so it's like a whole new world. I'm no audiophile, so the stock speakers/sound is sufficient. Even at relatively low sound levels (ie 10-15, which is maybe 25% of the max volume), it's loud and clear. Plenty of inputs (3 or 4 HDMI, component, RCA, USB, VGA, etc), and the panel is set up so all are easily accessible. Didn't notice much of an upgrade w/ my Xbox 360 when plugged into componenet, but on HDMI it brought out so much detail and color (note: may not have anything to do with the TV, I don't know). The menus are relatively straight forward. The finish and look is nice as well. I got a clear base stand which looks good, almost like the set floats over the base. It's light enough for a 1-man carry.

Cons: The remote is quite bulky and slightly confusing, imo. I won't use it much anyway. The power input could be lower and more centralized, the port is situated far to one side, so you may need a longer cord for your situation. For whatever reason, the string/screw that tethers the set from falling forward simply doesn't fit (have tried all the holes). That's really it thus far.

Other: Don't be afraid to tighten the screws down hard with the plastic base. I was worried about cracking the plastic, and the result was the set wobbled left and right. Had to take it apart again and tighten them down more. I do wish the tether worked, but that's very minor. It's definitely worth the money.

Samsung TV is great and a good value. The one problem that I had is that for some reason the TV occasionally interferes with the remote for my AT&T U-Verse cable box. That's the good news. The bad news is that the delivery was awful. The TV came over a week later than scheduled. The "white glove" delivery was a disappointment. They were supposed to unbox, set-up and connect the TV. They were going to leave without doing this until I stopped them and asked them to do it. then they did.

To be honest, I don't know how good the TV's speakers sound because I have the sound running through my home theater system. I gave the sound quality 5 stars though because everything else about the thing is fantastic! Super easy to set up, it took about 15 minutes to get everything plugged in and connected to my computer and to my stereo. The picture is awesome, the color is out of this world, and all of my friends who have seen it say that it's one of the best TV's they've seen.

The only issue that I've had (the reason I gave "Reliability" 4 stars) is that sometimes when I put my computer to sleep and turn it back on, the sound doesn't go through. It could very well be a computer or other technical issue (dunno because I'm not a tech-savvy guy). All in all, though, it's been a great purchase!

I am very happy I went with the Samsung rather than the Vizio as the quality of the build from an appearance standpoint as well as tv functionality and picture quality. I did a lot of research on LCD tvs with the following criteria: Under $1000, 46-52" and 1080/120. In the end, I went with the Samsung brand because its reputation for quality and I can't be happier with this model. I have DirecTV and the HD picture quality is incredible; it puts my 42" plasma 720 to shame. I have a blu ray player hooked up to it and regular non blu ray DVDs still look awesome. I told my wife that I couldn't believe they were regular DVDs. Watching from an angle didn't affect the quality either which was a concern with some of the tvs I looked at.

I agonized over this choice for a while but in the end I couldn't be happier. I'm tempted to replace my plasma immediately with this tv.

This is our 2nd sharp small screen TV. We use it mainly in the kitchen.

We gave our other sharp to our daughter as she needed a small TV. Apparently 19" is the smallest flat screen available. Our other Sharp TV was 15" and about 4 years old. We never had any problems with our first Sharp and were happy satisfied so we bought another Sharp

We are happy with the quality although the sound system could use a little help. The remote is a bit awkward. The volume and channel controls are above one another. Most remotes have them side by side.

After having owned this TV for over a month I decided that an honest review was in order,

First the Positives: This is an inexpensive LCD TV by a name manufacturer. It is lightweight, portable, attractive and easy to hook up. It has a wonderful picture provided that you are watching well lit indoor scenes or outdoor sporting events.

The remote control has all of the functions necessary to set up picture and sound preferences and is much easier than using the small buttons located on the right side panel of the TV.

Now for the Negatives: Most of the negatives can be overlooked as being relatively minor. Many have complained about the sound on this TV. It is not very good. It is rather tinny but keep in mind this is a small TV with not much space to put larger, better sounding speakers. You can adjust the bass and treble through the audio settings on the menu. This does help some. The solution to this problem is to just add external speakers through the audio out jack on the back of the TV or through audio output jacks on a cable box if you have one.

LCD TV's unlike old picture tube tvs have to be viewed from certain angles to give you the true benefit of the picture. If the viewer is much higher then the height of the TV the picture will look very bright and washed out. If the viewer is below the height of the TV the picture can look very dark. A "tiltable" base would have helped to remedy this issue. This again can be remedied by buying a wall mount.

The major complaint I have with this TV is the very poor contrast ratio that it has in dark indoor scenes as well as outdoor night scenes. Programs such as "CSI" which feature a lot of dimly lit indoor scenes are brutally dark. Blacks and Reds look inky with low contrast.

I spent a lot of time calibrating and recalibrating the picture options. I read up a lot on how to do this and although I finally improved somewhat on the picture it still is darker then what it should be.

Another important issue which I don't think anyone has mentioned. This is an energy saving unit...and although that is good for your electric bill it is not so great for your picture. Most LCD TVS have something known as either "AUTO DIM" or "DCR (dynamic contrast ratio)". What that does is automatically dim and brighten your backlighting as the LCD deems necessary. This annoying dimming and brightening is most active during well lit sporting events (such as a baseball game). Larger more expensive sets have a menu option to disable this. You cannot disable it on this set.

If I had too do it over again I would not buy this set. On the other hand I am not that unhappy where I would return it. For it's price it is OK.

For those interested the following are what I found to be the best calibrations for this TV (in TV viewing mode). Please note you MUST set individual calibration settings for EACH input (dvd, pc, etc.)

Brightness: 40
Contrast:30-35
Sharpness: 30
Tint: 5
Color:13-15 (personal preference..but anything higher seems "cartoonish"
Temperature: Cool (personal preference)
Backlight: 8 (the higher the backlight the more contrast you lose)
***DNR (digital noise reduction): OFF...The factory default is "ON". Having the setting "ON" will remove fine detail from your picture.

For quite some time i had been searching for a 32" flatscreen that didn't cost $500. When i came across this TV, i had no hesitation to order it! I play my xbox 360 on it and the picture is wonderful. What's even cooler, is that the TV has built in surround sound, and bass and treble adjustments. I was using component cables with my xbox 360, and i thought the sound and picture was alright. When i switched over to HDMI, all of the blur went away, and the picture was stunning. The sound is AMAZING for the size of this TV!

Another amazing thing is that the 32" size is plenty satisfying. I have another 50" flatscreen and i have no desire to move into the other room, because this TV is just fine. It is PERFECT for a bedroom.

Shipping was free, and only took 3 days to get it! Only $390.98, shipped.

-You can fine tune the zoom setting to get rid of the annoying black bars on the top and bottom of some tv channels
-My cable feed sucks and only comes in at 480i, the lowest resolution possible. There is NO distortion despite this!

CONS
-Sleep timer can only be set to an Hour and a half (90 mins)
-Only one output, Digital fiber optic (It'd be nice if it had standard RCA output to connect analog speakers)
-The remote is harder than hell to use in the dark, because there are so many buttons; it isn't backlit or glow in the dark.

Other notes: Out of the Box, if your room is well lit, the screen adjusts itself to be bright. If you cut off lighting in the room, the screen will darken. This is because there is an ambient light sensor on the TV, so it knows when to adjust the screen. This is actually pretty annoying, but all you have to do to disable it, is turn off " C.A.T.S "

EDIT: This TV is fully 1080p compliant; it isn't a glitch on my xbox 360. After setting the xbox to 1080p, if you click the info button on the remote (Which displays info about the video feed) it will say 1080p. This tv is also capable of 1080i.

If this isn't proof enough, i can tell a difference in the sharpness in the picture bewteen 720p and 1080p, 1080p being sharper of course

The set-up paper pamphlet tells you nothing but how to put on the base and plug in the set. The DVD instructions have 138 pages for you to print out. The cabinet is reflective material that reflects even the faintest light in the room back from the set cabinet to the viewer and is a pain in the neck. The hookup to the purchaser's existing sound system requires a special cable, not included, and nomenclature of the cable is not given. The sound-out cable plugs into a 'laser' source on back of set, it is NOT an RCA plug-in. The laser connector has to go into a laser receptacle on your system, and without the laser plug-in in your system, one must go and buy a new compatible sound system. I think this set is over-designed for the price, it is good only as an 'extra' in a guest room where it is rarely watched or as a computer monitor, and is not for anyone who has any expectations beyond being able to watch it only when nothing else works or is available.

I purchased this TV a few months ago and it is the best set in my house. We have 2 other flat panel LCD televisions but this has the best picture. I like that it has an energy saving feature, however we rarely use it since it does make the picture quite faint. The remote is easy to use and we didn't have any issues with set up.

PROS:
Received promptly ... out of the box beautiful. The sound is as good as any, picture is perfect (no adjusting) necessary, pretty much "plug n' play".
CONS:
Nothing of consequence. Would prefer a stand alone dedicated sleep button on the remote... as is you have to go into the menue three steps, I believe it is to set it, and I'm using this tv as the bedroom unit.

I would recomend this Panasonic unit to anyone without reservations.

I am very happy with this TV in every way. I love it! Just be aware that unless you have HD service, the TV picture won't be in high-def. I hooked a game system up to the TV and then I was able to appreciate the HD.

This TV was easy to set up and the sound and the picture quality is great. I have a smaller Toshiba TV at home and this Panasonic TV is MUCH better in terms of picture quality and ease of set up. This TV had all the right settings immediately, whereas with the Toshiba I had to adjust the color sliders a lot to get a good picture.

This TV has been GREAT! In my bedroom, it feels like a bigscreen. I have it set up about 10-12 feet away from where I sit in bed and I am loving it--the screen seems bigger than it really is. Picture is crisp, though you will notice the non-HD channels look grainy, but that's not the TV's fault! HD looks lovely on this screen.

I'll address a few things:

Appearance: This set is sleek and attractive! It is shiny and collects dust, but so what? Dust your TV! Not a biggie. Contrary to some other reviews, I think the viewing angle is fine--the screen is easily visible even at some extreme angles. Plus, it's a small TV--turn it a little! It is not heavy or hard to move. This is what I do.

Sound Quality: Sound quality is totally fine for bedroom use, but if you want to use this in a larger room, you may want to get some additional speakers. The speakers are on the underside of the TV which makes it look more streamlined but affects the sound level a bit. I'm thinking about getting speakers even for my bedroom, but that's just me. I like explosion sounds to boom.

Remote: The remote is easy to use, but I can't figure out how to fully sync it with my Fios remote. This may just be because I'm technologically-challenged, but I currently use both remotes. It partially synced, automatically--channel changes, etc., are on the Fios remote and volume/mute/power are on the TV remote. Oh well.

Haven't used the iPod hookup yet, but it's a cool feature to have!

Overall, I am VERY pleased with my purchase and love having this sized TV in my bedroom.

You have heard the story about the cobblers kids going to school with no shoes? Well as a TV Broadcast Engineer I was use to working with the best equipment at work and average equipment at home. Now with the DTV implementation completed I was ready to replace one CRT TV with a new digital set. I did much research and finally decided that for the price and features the Panasonic TC-L261 was the best buy. Oh... the price in Feb 2010 was only $289.00 not the $550 it is today.

I received the new set, set it up, and immediately ordered a second set for the bedroom.

I tested this set using some of the newest techniques and test equipment that I could put my hands on. There is not a set for the money that could meet these tests like the Panasonic TC-L261 did. Add the additional features like the slide shows with the SD cards, iPod hookup and you have a nice entertainment package in a compact size.

The only improvement I could recommend is to allow me to input a longer loop of music for the slide shows.

What I like about this TV is the info screen, lots of info with next program. Can also show all channels at a glance with what is playing on each - a cool little feature. I would have never thought that Samsung would have issues. My 46" LN46A550 just got repaired. It is 20 months old. Samsung was/is using lower voltage capacitors than is required on their boards. Mine had 10 volt ones in a 12 volt spot. Samsung has a list of all of the model numbers with this issue. The repair man came over and wanted to flip my TV on the screen face down on my couch. My wife was home and asked him what he was doing. He said that it was safe because it was a leather couch. My wife insisted that he wait until she put a blanket down. He seemed annoyed. Samsung has poor quality control lately but they did honor this problem. It is a one time fix. If it were something else broken, they would have charged me hundreds of dollars to fix it. At a minimum, you would have to pay for the diagnostic on it even if the repair was too much for your pocket.

Red this before you buy.

I bought this TV on January 31, 2010, as a second set to place in our den. It has gotten very little use (about 2 hours a week). While it is a very nice looking piece of equipment and had a very good quality picture at first, It is no longer working.

I have made three service calls to 1 800 Samsung.

* The first time I was told I would receive a call back to schedule service technician to come out to have a look at it. Two days later when I came home from work there was a message to call back. I did so the next day and was told our service request was cancelled because we could not be reached.

* I called Samsung again, they opened a new service request. I was later called to schedule an appointment for the coming Monday (6/14). When I called on Friday to make sure they are coming, I was told that our Service Request had again been cancelled, because the serial number did not match. After confirming numbers the rep. on the phone told me that they had written down a Q instead of a G. While this could have been an error on my part, I would have expected a call instead of them cancelling the service request.

* The third time was a charm, I scheduled something and a very nice technician came out to look at it. He turned it on and let me know that the panel was broken and it was not going to be covered under warranty. To fix it would be more expensive than a new TV. He also recommended, I call Samsung and "fight for it".

So I called. After being placed on a brief hold twice. The person on the phone told me that it was a cracked panel and as such not covered under the warranty. I asked about options and was told to call back tomorrow. Instead, I asked for a customer service rep. the man on the phone told me they did not have one. Asking for a supervisor I was told he was not available. When I said I would hold, I was told that it could take a very long time. I left my number with a request to get a call back. Guess what? I am still waiting.

Bottom line:

I have a 4 month old TV, hardly ever used, that I spent about $ 750.00 on. I have not used it in any other way than you all do (watch TV). It is no longer working. and Samsung's solution is "it's not covered under warranty.

To you, Samsung: Not very good customer service.

To all future owners of a Samsung TV: I hope that this was a fluke of bad luck on my part. Enjoy yours while it works.

Just got this TV this week. Haven't had a lot of time to mess with it. I've been studying up on new TVs for some time now. I sold a 7 year old Mits 55" rear projection set over the 4th of July. That was a nice set, but behind on technology and not as sharp as the newer LCD/Plasma sets. I looked at 3-D (can't see myself sitting in front of the TV with glasses, plus limited content for the price), LED (seemed gimmicky--my eyes couldn't discern a difference and I don't care about the slight savings in depth), and finally decided on this TV. CEVA delivered the set and did a great job. Showed up well within the quoted window, had 2 young, strong guys who were very careful and respectful of my home. They quickly unboxed and set it up, asked me if I wanted to hang on to the box (I didn't), and they hauled it away. All VERY FAST! They didn't put their hand out, but I threw them each a $5.

This TV has a great picture. I immediately turned off the Auto Motion Plus. The default setting is Standard, and each input can be set up differently. For gamers, that means that you can run a separate HDMI cable for your games and have all of the settings specific to that device. I may even run component cables to the TV from my cable box and set them up with the Auto Motion Plus turned on for specific content, such as sporting events. In general AMP does strange things, and I'm not a big fan. I like my content the way it was intended to look. That's just me. I think that's probably the #1 setting that people will fool with, so Samsung should have made it easier to get to from the remote.

I purchased the Wireless LAN Adaptor and it is working fine. Setup was a breeze with my Netgear router. For some reason download speed is considerably slower than my computers. Maybe it's just a function of the internal hardware. I'm lucky to get 1.5 Mbps, and I'm getting 20 Mbps through my cable ISP. Overall, the internet stuff is cool, and I can connect to my computers as well.

All in all, another happy customer.

* Excellent picture quality at a great price via Amazon. Just started using it, no complaints so far.
* Quickly connected to the net via my router, was able to access youtube, netflix et all painlessly
* i was pleasantly surprised when i plugged in my 1TB external HDD and it recognized my movies and played most w/o issues.
* Was able to download and use the iphone app for remote controlling the tv

Cons:
* Shipping was not pain-free. Scheduled a delivery for a specific time slot. No phone call or delivery person. Tracking information did not show any delivery activity. I called CEVA shipping and a (nice) lady picked up. After waiting a bit, I was told the tv was still at the airport awaiting shipment. They said they would send someone to deliver in the next few hours. Delivery did arrive a couple of hours later, but only one delivery guy showed up. I had to help him carry it up two flights of stairs, which I was hoping i would not have to do since an Amazon customer rep specifically said the delivery people would be responsible for delivering to my apartment and unpacking it.
TV was undamaged though.
* Only one AV input, doesnt play nice with my Wii and old Xbox which do not have a hdmi output. but i knew this before buying
* Samsung needs to up its game and provide wifi access to such TVs w/o extra accessories.
* No "PC" share equivalent for Mac.

I bought the LN55C650 in May of 2010. I bought it after being pleased with another Samsung LCD tv, the LN52B630. I am having judder problems with this tv watching cable, dvds, and bluray movies. . I know the judder problem is the tv's issue since I removed my old LN52B630 and hooked everything up from my old Samsung the same way to this one. I was very satisfied with LN52B630's ability to handle judder and blur. I experimented with the custom blur and judder settings on the LN52B630 and figured that the LN55C650 (also a 120 hz Samsung LCD) would handle judder in a similar fashion. When I couldn't get the LN55C650 to perform the same way, I tried changing the custom settings and even using the preconfigured (smooth, clear, ect.) settings to fix my judder problem. Unfortunately, nothing I tried worked. The problem happens intermittently and is very distracting.

I called Samsung and they sent out a service request. Two guys came to get my tv and I showed them the problem. They both agreed that there was something definitely wrong. They took the tv for several weeks. I called to see why it hadn't been returned and was told that they could find no problem with the tv. They said that they believed what I was saying but couldn't reproduce it in their tests. They said they would change the main board and that any problems should be fixed. If they weren't fixed, they said they would take it back and change every board on it until it was fixed. They recently brought it back and the problem persists. I guess I am going to have them come back and try replacing the other boards.

I am really concerned that this model may just have judder problems. Neither of the two released firmware updates have addressed any judder problems. If you read ALL of the Amazon reviews on this model, you will see others that are having the same issue. Many of the users have to turn off the automotion plus feature to avoid it. This was not the case on my one year old, LN52B630. On my LN52B630, you could customize the settings to your liking without any weird, frame skipping, jerky movements.

After studying the problem for over a month, I am convinced that the problem has to do with the judder control in the automotion plus settings. The blur controls in this setting seem to work fine. However, as soon as you start to use the judder control, you get intermittent weird movements that almost look like the tv is skipping a frame and trying to catch up. Like I mentioned, my LN52B630 had no such problem. Many of the Amazon reviewers had to turn off the automotion plus feature to avoid this, but you can't get your best picture without the automotion plus. Therefore, you end up with a television with extra blur (with the automotion plus turned off) because Samsung's automotion plus feature is defective. It's too bad, because the picture on this tv is awesome when this problem is not taking place.

Now I am stuck with a tv that I am not sure is fixable. Until Samsung addresses this problem with a workable firmware update, I would suggest staying away from it until Samsung addresses this problem. If it's happening to lots of others (Amazon reviewers), then I'm obviously not the only one. It looks like a widespread problem at this point.

The TV has an unbelievable picture. The issue is that it is turning off during viewing, and it has an issue going back and forth on tint while viewing. I have called Samsung and they are sending someone out to check it. We will see. Lastly, on some shows it skips a frame every 10 seconds or so - really weird. Like skipping forward. It happens on only a few shows. Weird.
I will let you know how it ends up.
If you have some recommendations to fix it - let me know.

Otherwise, I am going to have to see what I can do about them coming to fix it or returning it. It's too bad, because the picture quality is excellent. I'm still hoping it works out.

Deciding whether or not to keep this or just return it and keep looking for a better 55" LCD.

Since then (almost 2 months) it has worked stellar. the tech said Samsung was having board issues, but it was a good unit. If you are considering a unit, I would ask Samsung if they have replaced the boards.

I bought this TV about 2 weeks ago and it took me a while to set it up and get it looking good. first thing you should do is make sure none of the eco-settings are on or you'll get the problems of the screen going from bright to dim every few seconds. I have my set on standard contrast because dynamic was really really bright. the screen is very crisp and im really enjoying movies and TV again. the automotion plus is kinda ok with me on some movies and a pain in the butt in others. it makes everything so smooth that it kinda resembles VHS recorded comercials. then there are other times where it actually stutters a little. I plan on watching the original star wars trilogy this weekend to see how cool those movies look on it.

I bought this TV off of Amazon.com last week and am having strange issues with the picture already. I already own a 40" Samsung LCD with 120 hz so I've had success with Samsung already which is why I stuck with them. I'm already seeing clouding on all four corners of the screen and while watching a blu ray movie last night, there were numerous moments when the image looked like it was shaking up and down. I have the auto motion turned off but still was seeing the issue. Any thoughts?

I have had the LN55C650 for only a couple of days and I must admit that I have had a hard time finding another LCD that even compares with this one on picture quality. I did find that the 120hz option tends to make high action scenes kinda jumpy, but you can turn it off with great ease. The TV also has internet apps like Pandora, YouTube, and Netflix(although my email today from Samsung's tech support let me know that it is not just my TV, none of the C650 models can actually use Netflix... yet... You can install it and look at a screen that tells you to update (there isn't one yet). The Samsung rep did tell me that it will be fixed soon though and with this TV's price I can wait a couple of months for an update.

Cons:
The 120HZ feature, which was heavily complained about in the LN55B650 still has problems. The first thing I did when I got the TV was watch The Dark Knight BD (1080P) on my PS3 using a V1.3 Cat2 HDMI cable. I thought something was wrong with the TV as it was doing very strange things with background motion, but after turning the 120HZ feature off the picture cleaned up perfectly and I no longer notice any problems while watching it. I tried all of the different 120HZ modes, and they all had the same problem. That said, I turned it back on while watching HDTV (720p obviously) and it seems very clean with the 120HZ.

This LCD TV has a tremendous CFL backlight. We needed only set the backlight at 7 from the 1 - 20 scale to achieve a desirable picture in a darkly lit room. The backlight strength could come in handy. Use it to control viewing in bright to dark rooms rather than change the contrast or brightness controls.

Processor Testing: The internal processing chip sets for the C650 series LCDs are stout. Edges from test material are clear and crisp with both 480i and 1080i material. Transitions are extremely smooth, even from side to side panning or fast moving objects.

720p/1080i/1080p Picture Quality: Black levels are awesome as is contrast and brightness. Images are crisp and the detail is amazing with HD sources. Here's the big dilemna with HD content; whether to use the 120Hz AutoMotion feature or turn it off. It is not really needed. HD Blu Rays and Broadcast material are already very clear - and the feature can introduce some unwanted kitchy side effects with the background material - even though much improved from last year. I recommend turning it off for most HD content, though there will be some occasional judder effects. I would use it for animated HD content, sports programming HD content, or other HD content that has lots of fast motion. Other than that I would turn it off (see how below in features section).

After turning off the 120Hz feature, high definition content appears vibrant, realistic and extremely crisp. Blacks are rich for an LCD and contrast is a strength. One of the highlight features of the LN55C650 is its picture depth perception. Samsung has been unparalled in this area lately. I believe this is due to the companies Ultra Clear Panel technology which does allow for some glare on the screen but the tradeoff with great depth and rich colors is a winner.

Black Level/Contrast/Contrast Ratio: Black Levels on the C650 series LCD HDTV is super saturated, as black as the glossy black bezel surrounding the screen. We measured post calibration ANSI contrast at an unbelievable 5408:1 with the backlight at 7. We believe contrast is enhanced by the Ultra Clear Panel that Samsung uses for this LCD TV. The TV can get extremely bright and has exceptional range. Contrast appears superb on this TV, and we don't say that about many - especially not LCD TVs.

Internet Options: There is an array of Internet options, some proprietary. Samsung has increased the options. The Youtube option was pretty good. We found the Yahoo! Widgets in finance and weather pretty weak and non-worthy. Some other options are Panadora, Vudu, Blockbuster, Netflix, USA today AP new ticker.

Aesthetic Considerations: The C650 has lots of looks. The 55C650 is 3.4" deep while the smaller units are 3.2" deep. A nice wall mount or table top depth (without having to pay up for the super thin TVs). The framing bezel is a nice width about 2". It's black with a plexiglass overlay that goes just past the edges to give the appearance of glass. I like the effect. Under the center bottom frame there is a unique wide V shape and subtle silver gray and red Touch of Color. A nice little accent to a design that might be slightly boring with it. The sturdy swiveling table top stand must weight 12 pounds. It has an attractive glass surface with a clear neck. The stands allow for about 20 degrees of swivel.

Great TV. Couldn't ask for anything more. My eyes were in love the first time I watched anything on it.

The only cons I can think of is that it gets really hot. Even hotter to the touch on a warmer day. I think a lot of plasmas are like this though.
And when building the set, all the screw holes were done really poorly. The threads don't take the screw in correctly so you will be stripping them even more. Takes some muscle to get them in and it still goes in crooked. I have looked past this because I don't have to deal with it which lets me enjoy my TV all the more.

Ordered TV on June 7 and it was delivered 5 days later cracked. The carrier CEVA did not do white glove delivery even though it was wriiten all over the box. Delivery man said he did not have time. Contacted Amazon for replacement and the order was placed promptly,but due to the first TV arriving cracked I asked if they could expedite delivery. Told No. TV arrived on the 17th and the delivery company (CEVA again) called to schedule delivery. We asked for a Saturday delivery since no one could take off from work again and was told no. Monday thru Friday only. Called Amazon for support was on hold for an hour and told sorry nothing they could do. I asked for help from a supervisor and was told they would call me back. Never called back. Called again on Friday for support and finally got to someone who only had to authorize the delivery and it was finally delivered Friday night.Long time Amazon customer, but if this is their new way of doing business I probably won't return.

I have this plasma since almost 2 months and I have no particular problems with it. Excellent image quality for the price. It is not the best image for a plasma but you won't find better for this price. I would recommend to use a home cinema because the sound is just in the average. This product is fine. I know because I researched it for a month before purchasing. What is NOT fine is Amazon.com's service. They took my money just fine, and they arranged delivery as promised. However, the item was HORRIBLY damaged. The entire screen was cracked, in multiple places, from edge to edge. Ok, things happen I suppose. However, instead of IMMEDIATELY facilitating a return of the damage product AND sending me a new, NOT broken $1000 TV, they told me they were having "system issues" and that my only options were 1) buy a new one and they'll refund me when they get the broken TV or 2) they'll arrange pick up and refund me when they get the broken one. So, my options are $2000 for one TV that will now be two weeks late or I get no TV and refunded when they feel like it. Either way, the process ultimately will end up with me spending $2000 and getting a TV in a month after a lot of hassle. No thanks. FAIL! Best Buy will be getting my money for this and all my other high end electronic purchases.

I bought this TV two weeks ago. It is an awesome television. I started looking at TVs a couple of months ago. I was looking primarily LCD TVs. The more I looked, the more I became convinced that a plasma TV would work better for me. I am not disappointed at all. The colors are bright, the darks are dark. Pictures are sharp. Samsung has consistently gotten good reviews from both professional reviewers and regular folks like me. I do not hear any buzz from the power supply and burn in doesn't seem to be a problem. I was a little concerned about energy use and heat production. I can't address energy use yet, but this TV does not produce a lot of heat.
It will be worth your time to learn to properly adjust this TV. The factory settings are OK, but you will be happier if you "tune" it to your preferences. There are several places on the Internet that will help you get started.
Amazon's Enhanced Delivery was really good. The truck driver brought the TV in to the house, removed the TV from the box, set up the stand, and turned on the TV to ensure that it worked. All at no charge. What more could I ask?
I believe that the Samsung PN50C550 provides great value. There are more expensive TVs out there, but I feel that this TV will satisfy you. I'm impressed.

The sale, service and set up can't be beat. There is no better bargain when you don't have delivery charges. Delivery service opens the box where the set will stay, tests it and thanks you. Just a good feeling about the whole thing.
And, Oh yes, the television? Incredible sight and sound. Have it hooked up to HT. Make popcorn. The buzz that I read about is not audible. I put on the chokes just because they where there. You don't have to be technically blessed to install them on the ac line and antenna cable. You must realize that any interference will be eliminated with the chokes that are used in a myriad of commercial set ups and you never see them.
The only caveat is the remote which has less than ideal tactile attributes...but it does illuminate. Even if I saw the set for less the mere fact that someone else delivers it is something that a retail store would and does charge extra for. To be convinced go stand in front of one of those retail chains and see people ripping boxes apart to fit a 50" set into a vehicle. What an ordeal. So Amazon charges you less retail and provides the service. Duh-uh.

I am extremely picky when it comes to picture quality. I am a previous owner of two Panasonic plasmas and hesitantly bought this product based on reviews. I will have to say that there was no buzzing problem, which this set is notorious for. However, the post break-in picture suffered from these problems:

1. Frequent and noticeable image retention. For whatever reason, on a Samsung, the images stick around for a while. They do go away, but not as fast as you would expect.

2. Noticeable horizontal line bleed. Even with the included magnets on the power cords, there are noticeable horizontal bands across the screen during brighter scenes. They are always there, and apparently are a part of the technology and are on all Samsung plasmas. Look up the term.

3. What I describe as a slight blurring effect. I don't know if these are phosphor trails or what, but especially in dark scenes with faces, there is a slight blurring effect that can be very irritating. The only reason I noticed it is because I had never seen it in my Panasonic.

Despite the recent controversy over rising black levels, I bought the Panasonic G25/G20Panasonic VIERA TC-P50G25 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV anyways, and can say that all of the above problems are not evident whatsoever. Black levels out of the box blew the Samsung out of the water. The screen actually looks black!

I used the exact same connection to compare these tvs. PS3 via HDMI. I ended up returning this for the panasonic and don't regret it for one bit. The Panny's blacks may rise but nothing lasts forever and I will enjoy this tv for years to come before I will even notice it.

Ultimately, if you are a pickier person and can spend the extra, I highly recommend the Panasonic. Many will be happy with this set, I was not. I hope you make the right decision.

Update: There are other problems I have found with the Panasonic now, namely a problem called floating blacks. My new opinion is that no T.V. is perfect, they ALL have their problems and unfortunately you just have to find one that you can be happy with. The Samsung for the price is has a lot of value, but still the problems listed above.

When i first got the tv i really liked the way it looked and it was very easy to put together and set up. It worked great for me the first week, i only had an Xbox 360 hooked up to it and it was one of the best pictures ive ever seen but after that first week i had a lot of problems with it. According the HD Techs they had to replace the main board because i was having picture and sound quality issues and also replace the keypad and then even after they made those repairs the components seemed to brake. My 360 wouldnt even bring a picture or make sound on the tv b/c it didnt pick up any signal. So now i have to wait even longer for another Tech to come out and replace the components.

I initially bought a smaller, refurbished tv from another company but had issues with it and had to return it. As luck would have it, this one was on sale with the same company and I was able to exchange it with relatively little price difference.
I'm glad I did. The picture quality is great, especially on the few HD channels I get with basic cable. I do have some issues with volume. In particular, one of my HD channels has to be turned up to almost double the volume of any other channel. It's not a problem unless you flip to another channel during commercials as I do. Overall, it's not a big enough issue to really worry about.
The one bad thing I should mention about this tv is the remote control. First of all, it's not nice looking and the buttons are not set in such a way that they are easy to use. Notice that the channel buttons are at the bottom and the Menu/Select button is at the top. This is a tv that has a lag time between the time you press the channel number you want and the time the tv changes the channel unless you press the Menu/Select button after entering the channel number. Since the Select button is at the top and the number buttons are at the bottom, it's a bit inconvenient. More importantly, however, is that it is not very sensitive. If the remote is not pointed directly at the sensor on the tv, it doesn't pick up the signal so there are times that you have to press buttons several times before the tv responds.
At the end of the day, though, I would recommend this tv to friends and family; even given the remote control issue.

This television probably rocks, during the short 5 hours it worked it was superb. And then it just quit. So I contacted Samsung 'customer service', and the games began. Caveat Emptor, Samsung CS is not your friend. The set was installed on 6/28, and died on the morning of 6/29. Notified Samsung the same day, they called a week later (7/6/2010) to graciously inform me that they had accepted my referral and would replace the set in 7-10 days. Ok, I won't have to bother Amazon, who have already indicated they would replace it. 7/14 I call Samsung to inquire about status, I'm imformed that replacement will be completed by 7/21/2010. This morning (7/16) I receive a call from Samsung that it will be another 10-14 days until they can replace the set. I wasn't particularly pleasant and called an end to the games.

I reinitiated contact with Amazon, and within minutes had a committment to replace the set.

Consider these factors if you're thinking of purchasing this set, Samsung has no repair services in my area (at least for this product) of SE Wyoming.

Definitely buy an extended warranty. This is new technology.

If you have problems within Amazons return period take advantage of it, don't waste your time with Samsung. Samsung is deliberately trying to take you beyond the 30 day window, and just leave you hanging.

Amazon's CS is superb, it's rare to find such responsive customer service in this day and age.

If you're like me, you read several reviews to get a feel for the product. My two cents are to help those like me that were on the fence for about two months and then finally decided to pull the trigger. My first thing to do is to tell you what I upgraded from- a Panasonic 55" HDTV rear projection (no hdmi ports) with a Panasonic progressive scan dvd player. My first impressions after a week of watching satellite tv, blue-ray dvd, and 3D is--WOW! I bought this tv, the 3D blue ray player, the starter kit (included in my purchase at no charge), a wireless adapter for the tv, and two hdmi cables. Purchased everything through Amazon rather than a retail store for (a) a better price by $350 over BB, and (b) to save the sales tax of over $200 to get a new entertainment shelf/bracket unit. First thing on my mind is if you get this setup get the hdmi cables because none are included with the tv or the blue ray player. I'm also glad I got the wireless adapter because it's much cleaner and easier to access the internet content. The 3D content is what we're all paying for so I'll start with that. First, I'm glad that DirecTV includes four 3D channels at no charge, and the system recognizes the tv is able to run 3D so it adds the channels when you add them to your guide. Second, I find myself using the 3D effect for regular programming to give HD shows added depth and dimension. True 3D content is thin right now, but I'm getting great enjoyment watching Lord Of The Rings (my standard dvd extended versions)in 3D with the upconverter on the tv. True 3D content pops off the screen, and upconverted television programs and non-blue ray movies get a feeling of depth and background dimension. Regular HD picture is beautiful. The blue ray picture is incredible. As far as the internet apps, I use Netflix to stream movies and Pandora for music. The Netflix picture was not impressive but I had to upgrade my internet speed to get a better quality picture (not the TV's fault). I was worried about having these items shipped but had no problems. The tv was delivered by a local shipper and was checked for damage and was powered up before they left. Everything programmed easily (no geek squad necessary), and tweaked settings to my personal preferences over the next few days. Everything is working flawlessly thusfar. Bottom line for me is if 3D becomes the next frontier of in-home entertainment, I am ready, and if 3D doesn't pan out, I still have an HD tv with internet apps, beautiful picture and sound, and awesome blue ray viewing, with the added benefit of giving a 3D-like look to any movie or program. My suggestion is to read up on proper setup and optimal viewing distance, it will help you have a better experience.

I bought the Samsung 55 " series UN55C8000XFXZA Led TV On April 28, 2010 and the television started with the clicking problems on Sun July 11, 2010. The tv would not turn on and it would continuously click . I would have to unplug it and then plug it back in before the tv would turn on. By Wednesday, this did not work any longer, the tv would go into a continous clicking and not turn on. I am very disappointed with this product, since I never owned a product in my whole life that lasted only for two months. I was always a sony follower but was fooled by falling in love with the picture quality of the Samsung. Every tv that I ever owned lasted over 20 years. I called customer service and they are indifferent, after taking all the money that I paid for this item. They gave me a repair ticket. I wonder how long is this going to take. I think they should have offered to replace the tv. My advice is to not buy this tv. I will never by another Samsung. A bad product! Inferior components leading to earlier failure of the unit. I bought it from HH Greg also. It seems there is a growing number of people who is having the same issues with this television.

Got this baby about a week ago from BeachCamera. Ordered it in the afternoon around 4pm, the FedEx guy was at my door before 1pm the next day. As for the TV itself - I've always been a SONY fan, I love everything SONY, but when it comes to TV's I think Samsung is the way to go. This LCD is perfect for a bedroom and even a smaller living room. The colors and contrast are amazingly deep, blacks are black, period. It's really a pleasure to watch DVDs on it and kill me but I can't seem to care for 1080p, and Bluray and all that new fluff that everyone's crazy about. It delivers a great picture and that's all that counts for me. So on the whole:

PROS:
-amazing clarity and saturation of color, great viewing angle
-sleek and stylish design that brings class to the entire room
-swivel stand makes it easy to rotate the tv instead of having to move it
-sound is decent and has numerous equalizer settings to play with
-all the inputs and components you could think of are standard
-extremely easy menu to navigate through
-remote is kind of cool and innovative and has lots of nifty buttons for fav channels etc.

CON: - the only thing I had trouble with was the stand, the screws that go into the back of the tv fit perfectly but the ones that go into the tv stand took a lot of pushing till my hands literally were aching. I still don't think this is so bad and even gives you a peace of mind because you can be sure that with screws this tight nothing's moving unnecessarily and the stand is gonna be sturdy all the time.

OVERALL: Not a single bad thing about this TV, Worth every single dollar

I bought an Ln550 and had it almost two years. It does not turn on now. It just clicks like a clock. A simple search on all samsung TV's shows that they use cheap capacitors. They swell and burn out. You will have it happen right after your warranty is up. Samsung knows about the problem to they outsourced the costumer service to a place that is rude and hardly speaks English. With this name, you do not expect this but it is true. TV's lasted 25 years. Now they seem to have a hard time making it to two years. Never buy Samsung.

I've had this TV since the start of the year. I paid $1000.00 in a New Year's sale.

This is my second LCD screen from samsung. I have a 37" 720p from 2005 in my bedroom, as well.

I read through the reviews, and I can not think of any "cons". The screen is excellent, and the mass of inputs is very nice. I watch movies from a thumbdrive via the USB port often. I stream movies using a Toshiba E205 & NetGear Push2TV.

"Medal of Honor 2" looks great on the TV. Perfect for gaming, if you are into that.

Owning this samsung has been uneventful, other than getting comments about the picture quality, and people amazed that a TV can play movies off of a thumdrive, etc.

I would buy another one if I had it to do over. If the upstairs TV ever dies, a 40" version would be great, as well.

Excellent product. Plug it in, enjoy, forget about it.

This was my first tv purchase ever and I did a lot of research. This 2010 model looks great and was a lot bigger than I expected. The hint of red is really subtle, in fact I didn't even notice it at first until I was up close to tv hooking everything up. Sound quality is what you would expect from a TV (in my opinion same as the previous years model which I was able to view at best buy). I routed my sound to a surround sound system though, which was easy to do (optical cable) and sounds great.

The tv can rotate on the stand which is nice for optimal viewing in any part of the room. Stand is nice and sturdy. Cable collector in the back (like a laptop rubber band) that helps minimize clutter of cables running off your tv.

I run U-Verse on my tv and picture quality is great. Menus are easy enough to navigate - changing picture mode is nice for certain lighting. Also, my tv is in a bright room and I have had no problems with glare.

USB ports allow for external hard drive to view pics, movies and music. However, slightly annoying because 2 usb ports offered are not right next to each other, but rather split by a HDMI port. My external hard drive requires 2 usb ports when the battery is low, but luckily the cords are long enough to reach. The menus to navigate external hard drive are not the best, a mouse would make it a lot easier.

Internet function - this is nice, love pandora. however, again would be nice to have a mouse and keyboard, bc typing is a bit cumbersome. Also would be better if this had unlimited internet access, vs. only giving you the 10 or 12 samsung apps (youtube, flickr, pandora, few games, yahoo, weather)

Overall, I am happy with the pic quality and size for the price! Can't go wrong with no tax! Also, I really love the pandora feature and the fact that I can stream video from the external hard drive.

I purchased this TV for use in my RV that I use only on weekends during the summer. The space for the TV was small and my old traditional (non-flat panel) TV took up all of it. I decided to go for a flat panel that would take up less space.
The picture quality is excellent. It was very easy to set up. It has an HDMI connector to add my DVD player to it so I could connect the DVD with one HDMI cable. Pretty simple! The remote is intuitive and easy to use.
The only negative I have for this is that I wish I had purchased something a little larger. This is a 19" and is wider than it is tall. Movies play usually in wide-screen mode so this TV can accomodate that, but the picture is still pretty small. I would not recommend this size if the TV is going to be far from the viewer. But for my use, it works well.
It arrived very quickly and all the parts and manuals were with it.

The reviews seem to be right on about this TV. It has a great picture. It is easy to use and a great value. it is a nice looking television. I hooked my up to receive OTA signals and the picture quality is excellent.

However, when reviewers say that the sound volume isn't loud enough, that doesn't seem to be true. It certainly gets loud enough. The main issue with the audio is that if you have the volume at a low setting, the audio quality sounds tinny, lacking any bass. But when you turn it up louder, the bass kind of makes an appearance and it sounds relatively fine. For some reason, at low volume levels, the sound quality just loses balance. I don't know why.

But for $135, it's an outstanding value.

Well it arrove with Target store sealing tape on it. The manufacturer's box with the tv was merely dropped tinto a bigger box and shipped out - - - - no padding, no insulation, no air bags , nuthin' !

I thot the worse... wurst... rust... I didn't think it would work.

I set it on its pedestal; plugged in the antenna cable and the power cord; loaded the handheld remote with batt-ries and pushed the "on" button. I was thinking that this would be the same size as the one it replaced but that one musta been a 16" tv as this one is maybe 15% or so bigger.

From there on it told me "hello"; instructed me to let it set itself up and that was about it. This thing was ready for the evening news in maybe fifteen minutes..... It musta scanned the entire solar system for channels 'cause it now brings in BOTH PBS alternatives and channels I didn't even know existed. I am using a Channel-Master Omni mounted up in the attic with a 20 db in-line amp (also purchaced via Amazon).

Sound is adequate but I'm a little hard of hearing anyway.

Vision is remarkable. It don't matter where in the room you are - if you can see the screen reasonably; the pichure is clear..... none of that negative imaging nor funky colors when viewed at an extreme angle - - - - - like the LCD tv in the living room.

The volume and channel buttons are on the rong side of the controller but that's a matter of ergonimics. all the other stuff is pretty much easy to unnnerstand. It even has an AGC for the volumn option. That is to say there's an option that modifies to reasonable average volume those super sound commercial messages that blast between the normally set volume in the rest of the program.

Would I recommend this product? absolutely. Besides having the usual features and connections this one offers a superior viewing angle and a volume AGC.

I've had this tv for about a year and I couldn't be happier. This tv presents a better picture than any other tv I've seen with similar specs. It's hanging on my wall about 15 feet from the couches. There's no blur or judder, but I did have to tweak these settings a few times to get them right. I'll never buy anything but a Samsung again.

I purchased this television only 9 months ago and today the power on it went out. We can't get power back and the symptom looks exactly like ones reported by many others. Apparently the unit was manufactured with less expensive capacitors that don't last as long as ceramic ones. Luckily the television is still under warranty and we'll see what Samsung's solution is. I'll update the review with the resolution, but the bottom line is: Don't buy this television.

I researched TVs for 6 months and decided on this one. There were several things I was concerned about: glare, motion plus, speaker sound, etc. I have to say I couldn't be more pleased. Without going into too much detail for those of you on the fence, take my word and save 6 months of research and just get it. I considered 3D, LED, Plasma, Sony, LG, 120Hz, etc. This is the one to buy for the money - I took another risk and bought it from Amazon's Wearhouse Deals as an open item. Saved a TON of money, the TV was brand new, and the infamous Pilot Delivery service was great... set it up on the stand, made sure it worked. I was able to register the TV for warranty on Samsung's site and got 15 months. Needless to say, the picture is outstanding. Go for it!

Picture wise - best in LCDs, on par with Samsung LEDs. Mostly used for Windows Media Center and Blu-ray.
Some say SDTV (cable) sucks, and it does looks as ugly as it should, as the point of SDTV nowadays is just to get information across, not to look pretty, thats why we have something called HD channels.

240hz - Love that "Real" effect that many people hate.
Removes all the blur in movies and lets you see everything between frame A to frame B which you don't see with regular sets, hence you get that realism effect.

The added sense of realism and clarity really lets you analyze how the directors frame their shots; you see so much more.
Most movies do not look like "Documentaries" as people claim, they just look real; while some B grade movies do, because you now see how fake the scenes really are. Just one more thing to appreciate or critique in your movie experience.

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't like it. If you can tell me why, please.

If you're holding out on 3DTV for a few years, skip LED and get this set. You're not losing out on anything.

This is a perfect bedroom size TV. Having it with an HD receiver is a must. I do wish there was a sleep button on the remote instead of having to navigate into the menu to set it, but, the programmable sleep feature to have it turn off at a certain time every day seems to make up for it. I just set it to turn off at 11:30 PM every day, and don't even think about it.

The sound for a bedroom is fine. For a living room, a bigger Samsung TV such as the 46C630 is awesome.

One of the features that Samsung says that their televisions have is an Alarm System that turns the TV on in the morning. That was the main reason I purchased Samsung TV. Most other TV's only have a sleep time off feature.

After receiving the TV and hooking it up, I could not get the alarm feature to work. I spent hours on the phone with a Samsung Customer Service Rep who finally insisted that is was FIOS cable's problem. I then called FIOS and spent an hour with them arguing. They insisted it had nothing to do with them and that it was the TV's problem. I called Samsung back and the first level CS advisor tried very hard for quite a while and finally transferred me to the 2nd level Technical support. After trying for quite a while and he put me on hold and came back saying:

"THE ALARM FEATURE ONLY WORKS IF YOU DO NOT RUN TV THROUGH A CABLE BOX". (only directly to the wall) Words escape me!!! What a joke, in this day and age of cable, I would call that fraudulent advertising. Since Samsung features are not the simplist to use and the colors on the TV take much adjusting, I would never recommend or buy another Samsung TV again.

I don't usually write reviews but this is probably the worst TV I've ever bought. This set started off passable but now the sound is distorted to the point where you have to disable the audio and don't try using the optical or audio out (3.5mm out) to bypass it, if it goes through the set it ends up distorted as well. The menu also decides to randomly activate making it a regular chore to disable the menu whenever it decides to activate itself. I know now that this set has had a bad production run but that is no excuse, I have a Samsung set that has worked perfect out of the box for years now. I will be staying far away from Vizio in the future.

I purchased the VIZIO VM230XVT 23-Inch XVT-Series 1080p LED LCD HDTV to replace an older set in my den (man cave). The picture looked so good I hooked my computer up to it as well. Shortly after that came the Xbox 360. Long-story-short this was an excellent addition to what became a media center. Two things though, the remote works better at a distance than 2 feet away and the sound was a little weak. You will need to turn up the bass so it sounds better. I'm probably going to spring for a sound bar, the T.V. is worth it. I've had good luck with Vizio's in general - 47 inch in the livingroom, 42 in the bedroom. All work well. The LED - LCD is by far the best picture, spend the extra cash.

Perfect picture, excellent sound. Incredibly light and thin. If your video card supports high definition, then this doubles as an excellent computer monitor. I hooked it up to my Macbook aluminum (about 2 years old) and I had 23" of full 1080p glory. Perfect for multitasking or watching hulu. My favorite feature is that it can pause live TV if you plug a flash drive in the back. This timeshift feature works flawlessly if you have a fast flash drive. Not just any flash drive can be used with this; look at the transfer rate and find the fastest one you can. If you have a slow flash drive, playback will stutter. I did not have the problem that some other reviewers were having with the controls lighting up constantly on their own. My single complaint is that if a dvd player doesn't take up the whole screen, you'd think that you can press "Auto" for screen-fitting, and it'll expand, right? Not so. It will simply stretch it out, ignore the aspect ratio, and leave unnecessary black bars on the top and bottom. There should be a feature to make a picture take up as much of the screen as permitted by the aspect ratio. This TV lacks this feature. However, this does not matter with HD programming because it takes up the whole screen anyway.

I measured and it does not work beyond 9 feet with new batteries. Panasonic leads the way in picture quality with deep blacks, great colors and a picture that pops.

I have done a lot of research in both plasma vs. lcd and brands. Many reviews state that the 2009 G10 line of Panny's is the top of the line and even comes at a reasonable price. For my money and tv viewing habits the model has been excellent. As the months go by, the tv ages and the picture only gets better. The THX mode creates a great setting for movie watching at night and I switch to my user mode for sports. Don't let old reviews of plasma's deter you. Burn-in is a thing of the past and there is no problems with light reflection on the screen. I love this tv and feel I have the best thing available. The only thing better is the 2010 line of Panny's (VT25). Not only is the 2010 line 3D capable, but also the best 2D tv ever!

On top of the tv, Amazon had a great price and they even threw in a free Tivo HD. This also came with (in total) about $130 worth of Amazon VOD credits. Which equals lots of free movie watching. Free shipping on everything and quick delivery to boot. It was a great deal that I couldn't pass up. Almost a year later and I am still loving my set up!

I purchased mine on April 3, 2009. This morning, the wife turned it on, watched some French Open, then turned it off from the master switch. Later, I tried turning it on and noticed that the red power light was still illuminated and wondered why she hadn't turned it off. The remote wouldn't do anything and the master switch, when held in for ten seconds, would turn the light off and then it would come back on; but still no picture or sound. After reading several posts here, sounds like I too got a lemon.

I was on the phone with Panasonic tech support and then concierge service for over an hour, only to be told that since my set was two months out of warranty, they could do nothing but recommend a service provider in my area. Since they know this is a common problem, I think they should have made an exception.

Then, luckily, I remembered I bought it with my AMEX Gold Card, which doubles the manufacture's warranty. Called AMEX and they were so helpful and kind. The service dude is coming out on Monday. Hopefully, if it is the power board that is broken, there won't be a long wait time like some have reported.

My mom and sister have Panasonic Plasmas, but this is the last Panasonic product I will ever buy!

This starts out as a great TV. Everything looks good. The sound isn't great, but I'm using a stereo for everything so I don't mind.

There are two big problems with this TV.

The first is that despite Panasonic's claim that their VieraCast service is future-proof and upgradeable to the latest and greatest, it turns out it's not. While 2010 models will get Netflix Watch Instantly capabilities, the 2009 models reportedly don't have sufficient DRM protection and will not get this upgrade. I'm not sure I buy this explanation, since Amazon on Demand doesn't seem to fear Panasonic's customers will be somehow recording their streams. Given the fact that Netflix isn't pay-per-view, I'm guessing they would care even less than Amazon would. Panasonic appears to be merely giving their new toys more features than their old toys while placating those of us who gave them $1000 four months ago by blaming someone else.

By far the biggest problem with this set, however, is that Panasonic is effectively running a bait-and-switch operation. You know that great picture their plasmas come with? Those dark blacks and great contrast? Well, by this time next year your expensive new HDTV will look worse than sets that sell for half the price at WalMart. Panasonic, you see, has programmed their tv to "gradually" increase their black levels. ([...])

They didn't let us know before we ponied up all this cash that they had irrevocably programmed our expensive TVs to degrade in quality. There is no fix in sight and they're now being sued. ([...])

CNET says: I were buying a plasma TV right now, I would avoid the 2009 line of Panasonic plasmas.

I agree. It's too late for me, but for all you out there doing your pre-purchase research...consider yourself warned. And don't buy used Panasonic sets, obviously.

Appearance: The T.V is very aesthetically pleasing. It has a superb black glossy finish.

Ease of Use: The T.V is very easy to use, especially the Viera Cast. You can also figure out the T.V if you so chose to do, without reading the owners manual, although, I would still suggest reading up.

Picture quality: So far the picture quality is amazing, I have read forums claiming that the black levels "brighten" after sometime. We shall see.

Sound Quality: The speakers could be better, but who uses just the T.V speakers now a days anyway?

Other thoughts: 42 inch T.V is a perfect size for me. Also the T.V sits very firmly in the stand (you actually have to screw it in)

I have to say I wasn't sure about this smaller television, but it has met all my expectations for the price and being refurbished. I have had it for about two months now and no problems. I bought this TV/Monitor because I needed an upgrade to my 13" made in '96. Boy am I pleased with the results! This TV has great picture quality (1080p) with contrast I'm still marveling over. When I go back to campus in the fall, I'm planning on taking this TV with me and using it with my laptop for additional screen space.

There were some minor issues with the TV/Monitor that I got:

- I ran Ubuntu (Linux) 10.04 on my laptop and hooked up the VGA to it. When it finally synced up like it normally does, the screen got really fuzzy as if it was The Flash vibrating at lightning fast speeds. I tried it on Windows 7 as well but it was only slightly better, leading me to believe it was some hardware issue with either my laptop or the screen. Probably the screen.

- When hooking up those regular RCA cables (Red, Yellow, White), I found out it only provides input for audio (Red and White) and video is only component (Red, Blue, Green). I'll have to use a converter for the coaxial input so that I can use any regular RCA inputs.

Other than that, this TV has exceeded my expectations, especially for the price of approximately $200! By far the best you'll get for the money.

Today I went shopping for a new LCD monitor for my new PC (Dell) which will arrive in a week or so.

Went to Best Buy, Office Depot, and finally Staples. Looked as Dell, Acer and Samsung monitors. The guy at Best Buy recommended Samsung, Acer, and Dell in that order, with Samsung being the best.

I was impressed by the Samsung monitors, and Staples had a 21.5 inch "new model" Samsung for 169.95, and this 23" monitor for 239.95 which was on sale.

The 21.5 inch Samsung did not appear to tilt up or down, as did this 23 inch. Otherwise I may have bought it because it was a good price, but glad I did not.

And I was intrigued by the fact that I could use the 23" as a PC monitor AND as a 2nd TV (in the same room as my 50" Samsung HD TV, but watching different channels).

Bought the 23" and brought it home.

Went to Amazon.com to see if I got a good deal. Was a bit concerned to learn that there was a "newer" model available. (24.6" for 289.99) But after reading all 28 reviews of the "newer" model (a few negative) and the 77 reviews of this model (mostly very positive) I felt I had made a good choice.

Hooked it up to my "old" PC through the VGA connection and to my Cable TV through the coax input.

Turned it on and both the PC and TV worked without any manual changes on my part. (The Monitor did spend some time "auto" setting up the channels for my TV)

Not sure which channels are HD and which are not. Perhaps I should connect my cable box to the monitor with an HDMI cable instead of the coax?

Overall I a very pleased. Both PC and TV displayed fine out of the box. I may try downloading newer drivers for the TV as some have suggested. I am running Windows XP, but my new computer will be running Windows 7.

The only negative is that the remote control that comes with the monitor sends out the same signals as does my Samsung 50" HD TV remote. So I need to hold it close to my monitor, or else it will change my TV also. (The monitor is only about two feet from my chair, and the TV is about 6 feet.)

One day latter...

I am even more impressed with the purchase. Am watching baseball on my 50" TV and have the 23" monitor tuned to watch Soccer. As I am writing this I can just hit the "source" button on the remote to switch between what I am typing and watching the soccer match. The ability to switch the monitor from PC to TV at any time is rather addicting.

Amazing quality picture @ 100,000:1 contrast ratio.
The sound quality is OK (i have mine connected to a surround sound system) but the sound that comes with the TV is actually pretty good.
If you're a gamer you can play games with no noticeable lag (I play rockband and Modern Warfare 2 with no issues at all).
If you are thinking in buying an LCD HDTV, its a no brainer...choose Samsung!

I just had to write a bad review about the same size Sony Bravia and it was pretty painful. I traded it for this knowing it would be better, but not knowing how much better. The picture is just amazing right out of the box, i made a few adjustments with the smoothing, and a few other things just to suit myself. Right away i viewed some trialers, Iron Man 2, Shrek 4, How to Train Your Dragon, and a few other things, and the difference is just like night and day. There is no grainyness to the picture what so ever, the smoothing is flawless and the sound is well, almost TO loud depending on how you fix it up. But hey i'd rather have to much volume than not enough. I got this bad boy on clearance at Best Buy for 1199$, regular price was 1899$, showing its definitely a higher end model TV, even if its not this years model. So stay away from the Sony Bravias and if you try to compare them, don't bother, the Vizios i have seen people have even far surpass the Sony, and even though i'm a huge fan of them i just can't believe how bad the Bravia i purchased was. So stick with Samsung folks, i remember back in about 2007 when the LCDs really started getting big and i saw a Samsung for the first time right next to a few others. I told my wife at the time wow look at the difference in the quality of this compared to the others, she was pretty mistified herself, which was unusual. These Tv's are rated number 1 for a reason, and when you pop it out of the box and feast your eyes on everything from Blu rays to HD tv channels to games, you'll see why they are so. Now lets just hope reliability wise it lasts. Later.:D

This TV looks great, even though I'm not subscribed to
HD service. I get one channel off the air in HD and
it's incredible. 1080P is the bomb!

Set-up is a little fiddly and LG provides the
absolute worst user manual ever! It
tells you nearly nothing about what various
controls do and how to set them. This is
the only real CON I have with this TV.

The only real competition to my LG was a
Samsung that I was watching. It's price went
through the roof and it was smaller than the LG.
The LG's technical specs are impressive. If you
believe in looking that what the numbers say, this
is the TV for you. (although this model is no longer
available.)

Unpacking the TV was nearly painless. Mounting the
swivel stand was easy, but if you're a small person
you'll want help getting the TV from the floor to wherever
you're going to put it. I was just able to wrestle it
up to my 4 ft. high location. I'm a average sized guy
so judge for yourself. Just don't drop it!

If you're buying a new TV, do some research,
watch prices and know what you're buying before
you buy it.

I purchased this TV last November and immediately sat down with my wife to watch the first 1080i movie that we could find on cable. It was "The Brothers Grimm" and the image quality really, really sucked.
The movie proved to be a really great shakedown cruise for the unit. It was filmed with extremely dark scenes that fought with the built-in auto contrast and made things muddy. There were other scenes that had extreme contrast differences in the same frame.
We were quite disappointed.

You'd figure that it would be easy to go into the controls for the set and make the appropriate changes to compensate for the shortcomings but after a while I realized that there were way too many different combinations. I needed to find some numbers that would get me close to the optimal calibration for the set.
Remember that the factory settings for any unit are usually set to look good in the store - not for general viewing.

I found these settings online and they made things 100% better! A couple of tweaks later I was more than happy with the image quality and haven't touched the settings since. These settings can be found at[...].

This is probably the best 40"+ for under [...] that you can get. Just remember that it needs calibration and the internal speakers aren't very good. A reasonably priced HTS is recommended.

OK ok people... Those who write complaints about the sound and picture quality need to step back and look at what else can be purchased for the same money and have as many terrific features as this TV. Of course it is not the best otherwise it would cost $1000+ instead of $549 when I bought it. Even the 1000 plus TV's still have crappy sound. The sound for this set is mediocre but thats why there is an optical out to hook up a Dolby surround sound setup. The picture is 1080p res and has the 60hz refresh - more than acceptable for normal HD programing. Gamers should obviously look for a set that has at least 120hz due to faster movements coming from a gaming console.

All in all - great TV for the money. If you are looking for the TOP TV on the market - this is not it...but you should know that by looking at the price.

Everything about it works great, and it's got a VGA input which we like to use for the computer periodically. However, it has a couple flaws, which is why I rated it 4 instead of 5.

--As the other reviews say, sound quality is a little tinny. It's not horrible--i use an external stereo but the speakers on the TV are good enough I leave them on as well.
--The other flaw only recently appeared, and it's that the remote doesn't work for the TV for the first minute or two after you turn on the TV. Bad for those occasions when you've left the volume up the night before and there are people sleeping when you turn the TV on. It's also annoying when you leave the TV on a different source and can't change it the next time you go to use the TV.

I would and have recommended this TV.

I posted this as a comment under the review titled: "This TV has very serious flaws! Sony is unresponsive!" but I think the issue here needs a review of its own.

I purchased my Sony BRAVIA V-Series KDL-52V5100 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV in December, 2009. Since that date my TV has, four times, been rendered blank and totally unresponsive to any input from the remote or on-set controls except power off. A 30-minute phone call to Sony support after the first incident did not resolve the issue; I had to attempt a work-around on my own - I'll explain that later.

After the fourth occurrence I arranged for a Sony-authorized service tech to examine the set. Listen to this: he told me he'd had many similar complaints. Apparently here in San Diego a certain HD channel occasionally triggers a glitch in the Sony TV circuitry causing the TV to go blank and unresponsive. Only by tricking the TV to disengage from this particular channel can you get the TV to work again. When he explained this to me I realized my favorite channel was this particular one and my set always froze when I was watching a program on that channel.

The service tech checked the current firmware on my set and saw it was the latest version available. In that case, said he, there was nothing he could do. He further said that Sony is aware of this problem and is working on a fix, but he wondered how they would notify owners and deliver the fix when available.

After the service call I contacted Sony Support to ask about how I would learn of the fix when it becomes available. I was directed to Customer Relations. In a phone conversation the representative claimed Sony was NOT aware of any such situation. The only remedies forthcoming from Customer Relations were to offer either the phone numbers of 2 more authorized service centers or a promise to have another Sony advisor call me. I requested both; the rep agreed. Then I repeated my statement that I know there are many Sony customers complaining about this, and I read to him some postings from an internet forum I'd discovered. The representative then said Sony now stands informed and aware. We'll see...

Anyone, including Sony Support and Customer Relations personnel, can do a Google search and find references to this and similar issues. Personally I've posted about this and gotten response from other Sony owners. But other TV manufacturers have had similar problems with some of their models; Sony isn't alone here. LG, for example, has had this type of problem with some of its sets (do a Google search) but, unlike the initial response from my Sony Customer Relations representative, has publicly acknowledged it.

My internet research seems to indicate this glitch occurs with other Sony models as well and in other locations - not just here in San Diego. As the original reviewer says, this may be a low-end Sony, but my $1200 seems pretty high-end to me!

Work-arounds I've culled from the internet:
1. Unplug the set and walk away for a while. I once did so for 48 hours and it came right back on.
2. Turn off the TV (you can do this with the remote or the on-set control), turn it back on and immediately begin madly punching the channel up/down button so the TV switches away from the poison channel before it can freeze the TV again.
3. Turn off the TV (this is ALL you can do with the remote or on-set control at this point!), disconnect the antenna cable from the set, turn the set back on, change the (now blank) channel up or down, re-connect the cable.

Voila! You've just spent $1200 to do your own TV troubleshooting - compliments of Sony Electronics Corp.

Generally, I am happy with this hd lct tv. However, I am concerned that when it arrived there were 2 screws that were in the box. I discovered that the screws were for the back cover by the vacant slots. When I tried screwing them back, they won't tighten. I cant believe Sony will have loose thread on their screw slots! I only hope the unit I got is not a refurbished unit from AMAZON. Also, the response time when moving between channels is very slow. I hope Sony improves on this. I tried comparing this with SAMSUNG at the local store in our place, I was surprised at the response time of Samsung when you change channels. Audio is ok, but would be best if you set up a theatre system. Viewing pictures from the camera with a usb connection is awesome. but again, the response time when moving between pictures is very slow.

I received this HDTV as an Xmas gift to replace a 5 year old Sanyo tube-based HDTV that was going nutty (green tint to the picture suddenly).

Pros:
* The blur motion control, Bravia Sync, and input switching are great.
* The menus for calibration of the picture (if you have a THX calibration disk) are simply very easy.
* Watching Blu-Ray movies or playing PS-3 games on this are awe inspiring- incredible details, rich blacks, no motion glitches.
* Hooking a Nintendo Wii up to this TV via component cable was a nice surprise too in terms of picture quality and motion tracking.
* So many inputs, you will be hard pressed to fill them up.

Cons:
* The sound of the TV speakers requires you to have a separate receiver/speaker array system. The speakers are rather tinny sounding with no bass.
* The quality of this HDTV, like most on the market, requires that you learn how to calibrate the TV to THX or another standard. Otherwise, you are not getting all the quality that the TV is capable of.
* The HDMI input does not communicate well with the current Verizon FiOS Motorola HD QIP 71001 set top box. The picture flickers intermittently, goes to green screen, or goes to black depending upon the channel selected. Switching the set top box to feed this Sony using component cables solves the issue, but it is disappointing that neither Sony, Motorola, nor Verizon want to take ownership of this HDMI problem.

Overall, the picture quality of this TV blew away other 120 Hz LCD HDTV's both priced at this level & even $1,000 more. To get a better picture, if you know how to calibrate an HDTV, you would have to spend several thousand dollars more. Even then, the amount you will spend versus perceptible picture quality improvement is not really worth the bang for the buck IMHO. I would recommend this TV with the above 3 caveats.

The picture quality is spectacular. The sound is kinda "meh" But typically if you're using a TV this size your using some kind of surround sound system of your own choosing - like myself. Which in turn makes it a 10/10 for me. A great buy, the colors are vibrant and the blacks are deep. Very nice with ZERO ghosting on the dark scenes. However, like others have stated, the standard def channels look poor but that is to be expected on an LCD this size. Someone mentioned some issues with a "popping" noise when changing channels using the HDMI or switching through the inputs. I have NOT experienced any issues like that or of any other nature with this model. A great buy indeed.

Many people are facing a black screen and TV repair bills as soon as 3 months after purchase due to poorly engineered power on circuits. These are basically the same failures from 70's to current TVs that use super-cheap capacitors to boot up and commonly fail. Worst problem is the Samsung customer service who will supposedly have it replaced "for free" (the 10 cent part) but only by their one authorized vendor at a substantial $$$ service charge. Buyer beware.

We have had this TV for about two months, and love it to death. We got a steal on it at a local electronics store chain, and my girlfriend brought it home one day just as a spontaneous purchase because of the price she got on it. It's our first ever Samsung purchase too. I have to say that the picture on this TV is literally stunning. Perfect rich color and pitch black blacks. The screen is a bit reflective when it's off, so I was concerned that we'd have window and light reflection, but once it's on there is no reflection what so ever. A HUGE plus over some of the TV's I've seen that reflect light like a mirror. Don't understand why people spend thousands of dollars on TV's like that... but none of my busienss. The "touch of color" is a nice touch too. This TV works great with everything component we haven connected to it. Never really needed the manual because it's really easy to navigate the menus and set up. It's a GREAT and welcome addition to our bedroom. We had a 20" LCD in there previously, now it's in the kid's room for video games. Everybody's happy. It's really one of the prettiest, most easy to use, but also one of the most powerful 32" TV's I've seen as far as performance, options, and features go. 100% satisfied with it after only two months, and since we BABY our electronics almost to a fault, I'm expecting to be ejoying this one for a long time! Exactly what you're looking for when you spend a couple hundred dollars on a TV. You want options, ease of use, performance, and NO HASSLES or GLITCHES. Samsung hit the nail on the head with this one, hands down.

This is a wonderful TV. Prompt delivery. We plugged it in and it worked! This is my second Samsung TOC TV. It was carefully packaged in the original box and a bigger box with peanuts. I especially liked that the remote control can be lit, since I bought it for my bed room! I have had this 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma TV for nearly four month's now; I upgraded from a 21" Panasonic CRT. This is a really great TV at a reasonable price. I chose plasma because they got great reviews and seem to have less issues with backlighting and were a bit cheaper than current generation LED/LCD's. I opted for the S version over the X version because I don't have broadband. We get 20 odd channels over the air with an antenna, PBS which has a lot of HD programming comes in beautifully. We joined Netflix about the same time and have really been enjoying the home theatre experience. My TV room is narrow less than 12' so I made cardboard cutouts while deciding between the 42" and the 46", in hind sight I could have gone with the 46". I was worried a 46" from 7 feet away would be too big or grainy, the fact is you could be 12" away with HD before it starts to pixilate, and the picture is so good, bigger is better once you experience the feel of home theatre. I added the Blu-ray DVD player, have yet to try a Blu-ray disc, but we're ready for them. I already had an Onkyo 7.1 surround sound receiver, added a motley collection of speakers, a pair of old KLH's, some home built rear and recently added a BIC 12" sub woofer, now we can get all the sound effects and deep base we can handle. I used the HDMI connections for the Onkyo, Blu-ray and TV; these are a must to get the HD experience. Needed the composite hook up for a somewhat antiquated VCR, and a digital optical input for the best sound from the Home Theatre Amp. The message here is DON'T FORGET TO ORDER CABLES ALONG WITH THE TV. The sound out of the TV itself is OK, not horrible but far from a surround sound experience. I have never adjusted any of the picture settings, colors are rich and accurate, occasionally a bit dark but this can be adjusted by opting for the theatre experience which enhances the picture abit. Controls and adjustments both on the TV and the Onkyo require studying the manuals and carefully selecting from multi-layer menus. Not always clear what you want or how to get it, since we don't do this everyday, adjustments require revisiting the manual. Once you are happy with what you have great, still need 3 remotes, haven't been successful using any one as a universal though all claim it's possible. Overall a huge upgrade from the old TV, enjoying it!

Info: I live approx. 6 mi from the TV transmitters in my area.
Previous TV for comparison: JVC D-series 27" CRT w/ Insignia SD tuner box
Other equipment: B&W speakers, Pioneer Elite receiver, Oppo BluRay player
Tech level: High. I read AVSForum, listen to tech podcasts, and program computers for a living.

Also note, this is my first HDTV purchase, and I made some mistakes in the process, so I'll share them with you so that you can perhaps avoid them.

Advantages:
-The fact that you get a performance plasma for a low price means this unit is a great value. You'd be hard pressed to find another plasma that has the performance/price ratio this one does.
-It *is* a plasma. As such, you get spot-on motion resolution (very natural!), wide viewing angles, and good black levels. It produces a very nice, non-fatiguing picture, which many LCDs simply can't compete with, at or above this price point.
-Optical audio output works very well; it can even put out 2-channel audio from HDMI input sources out over optical.
-I thought I would hate the glass face (potentially reflective), but I found that if you don't have lights back where you sit, it actually brings the picture out and makes it look better.

Disadvantages:
-The color performance on this display is so-so. People, in general, tend to look pale and bland (too green), especially with DVD, SDTV material on TV after using a calibration disc. Out of the box it was too yellow. It's kinda boring to look at, perhaps like you're watching a lake with a mild algae infestation. Most of the Panasonic THX plasmas (G10, V10) above this model aren't this bad, so you may want to spend more if you don't like the color on the S1. Note: With truly HD or BluRay material, I've found the color doesn't bother me as much and I'm okay with it. I'm not sure why, maybe its the way the S1 does color conversion. In short, this HDTV cannot provide a picture that's remotely close to reference, even with significant tweaking. It's better than many of it's peers, but it still falls short.
-Calibration controls for this set are few. There is no 11-step gray scale adjustment, or any color management system. Because of this, you really can't fix the color decoding issues without expensive external hardware. Even the service menu controls are limited, which means even an ISF calibrator would be hard pressed to fix these problems.
-No VGA/PC input. Thought I wouldn't care too much about not having this, but discovered that I do. There are so many times where I wish I could hook up my laptop to my TV (streaming video, playing video games, etc) that I wish I had this. YMMV. I could get a VGA to HDMI adapter, but that actually costs more than moving to a 42" G10 with the VGA input.
-The ATSC tuner is very bare-bones. You can't see extended show information, what's coming up next, no guide or anything other than the title of the show from show metadata. The tuner is also not very sensitive, I find I need to tweak the antenna a bit more to keep the station coming in well. (I'm comparing to an Insignia SD tuner box I used previously; LG made it and use a similar ATSC tuner system in their TVs, I believe; much better IMHO).
-After I got it, and had it in the room, I realized that yes, I could have gone 50" and it would have made a big positive difference. If your'e hunting for a TV, you may want to think about getting one size bigger than the size you want.

Conclusion: while this display met my budget requirements, and while it is a pretty good display for the money, if you are kinda picky about picture quality you may be disappointed. I learned, after this purchase, that I should have saved a bit more and gone for a G10/V10, even if I had to mail-order it. I'll make a better decision next time.

I bought the Panasonic after much research & comparison. I was waiting for the earlier issues of plasma TV's to be resolved. I knew that the color was more vibrant than any LCD I had ever seen, but was worried about all the things that would sour my eventual purchase. Price, viewing angle, power consumption, screen burn-in, heat, weight, contrast ratio, ease of operation, etc. As time passed one by one every concern I had about plasma was resolved to a more than acceptable level. The TV has the easiest set-up menu I have ever seen and within 20 minutes of dragging the box in the door I had assigned the TV inputs to my SAT HDMI, my Blu-Ray to another input, my outside antenna to but another, and was watching HDTV. If you are someone who isn't real handy with technical babel I highly recommend this TV. The picture is amazing, and I was very surprised to how well the 'on-board' speakers sound. It was a great deal, super fast delivery to my door by UPS, easy to set-up & use, and has been an absolute joy since I got it. If they had a sixth star I would rate it six out of six!

My son who has been leaning towards the new LED TV's came by to see mine and after about five minutes of being completely blown-away has since ordered a 58" Panasonic plasma for himself. The 2,000,000 -1 contrast ratio really makes a difference in the sharpness & the blacks etc. For fast moving sporting events this plasma is the best I have ever seen & I have been staring at plasmas for five years waiting for all their quirks to be improved. Amazing TV and better than the Samsung that cost a thousand dollars more.

I waited 10.5 months to offer as accurate a review as I can. This is the first HD TV that I purchased and am I gald I did. Before I made my purchase on Amazon last July, I read as much as I can from Consumer Reports to CNET to random internet blogs and of course Amazon feedbacks. Because I had a limited budget I wanted the most for my buck, so I went to Plasma instead of LCD last year. I wanted a reliable TV and go with a reputable manufacturer that has been in the TV business, that helped me eliminate Vizio, Samsung, LG etc.

The HD quality is great. I purchased a $10 HDMI cord from Amazon instead of wasting my money on a $99 version at the local retailer. I love the rectangular stand on this set. My parents have the older version with 2 perpendicular "feet." This is much better looking and even a little easier to install. The remote is easy to use, although I rarely use it since everything is available on the cable box remote.

Although this TV only has 2 HDMI inputs, you can solve that by using the 4-5 HDMI inputs that a receiver has.

I do have 1 complaint that kept me from giving this set a 5-Star rating: Glare. This is extremely noticeable at my last house where I placed this set in the corner and hence, it was positioned 45 degrees towards my windows. Bad decision, but that was the way my living room was designed. With my current house, I have the TV against a wall and the problem is 90% solved. But this can be a big distraction.

Overall, it is a reliable, beautiful, quality HD TV at an affordable price.

This was not the 32 inch that I wanted but by a convenient event I got it. After setting it up and watching it for a few week now, I am not sorry. The picture quality using standard definition connections is amazing almost HD quality. The color is brilliant,The blacks are black and the whites white. There is no fading from side viewing and the sound is above average. The one draw back here is the number of available standard definition connections the set have. 1 component and 1 composite. There is no S-video. This I find is room for improvement because if you have more than 2 older pieces of audio video equipment then you need to purchase a multimedia scaler or something like that to use them with this TV.

That aside the TV is a really great purchase for a small room like a bedroom or small family room. 4 stars and not 5 because It should have had another 1 or 2 standard def connections. If that's not a problem for you, then this is a splendid deal for the money. You will be very pleased.

I bought this to put in my bedroom. I don't like watching TV in bed, but my wife does. Since it is a bedroom TV, I didn't want to spend the money for the newest technology, and it is a very good value for what you get. The picture is very clear, the sound was surprisingly good (I never use built-in speakers before... I love my B&Ws in the family room), but if I had to do it over again, I'd get a slightly bigger screen. It's just a tad small for the distance we have it from our bed, which is about 12 feet from our heads to the screen.

I purchased this tv for 825.00$ on display and I cannot find a single flaw with this tv after I received the firmware update through Sony.

For an LCD television, the blacks are incredible and blu-rays looked unbelievable!

I use my PS3 for games as well and with the GameMode On, there is no lag when playing games.

You always pay a little more for Sony products but it is well worth it! I compared this television to many other models like Toshiba, Samsung and Panasonic and I found the Sony to be the best out there.

In the past, I have always had good luck with Sony TV's, and during the 1990's I had a Sony 32" Trinitron that provided a picture and sound that was superb in every respect, the state of the art for the time. It was with some disappointment, therefore, that I found that the TV industry's venture into the Brave New World of HD has saddled an entire generation of TV viewers with substandard sets that are in many respects far worse than the non-HD sets they have replaced. The Sony Bravia series is, unfortunately, no exception to this rule.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40V5100 is best when viewing live sports events. If you like to watch golf, basketball and football, and little else, this is the TV for you. Unfortunately, the Bravia does not do as well in other situations. Here are some of the flaws I have noticed:

(1) Picture problems. The only settings that produce an acceptable picture are in the Vivid range. Turning off the automatic contrast enhancer helps, but the picture quality in most cases is still unacceptable. At its best, the picture is sharp and crisp, giving great definition, but even on many HD channels there is considerable degradation of picture quality, with feathering and blurring quite noticeable.

The less said about non-HD channels the better. The picture performance in non-HD is abysmal, with dark scenes turning black and light scenes whiting out.

Similarly, no matter what the player, non-HD DVDs upconvert poorly. Using an ordinary non-HD TV to play DVDs is a far better choice, and an important one if, like me, you have a large collection of these now obsolete items.

Moreover, for anyone who has a multi-system non-HD TV set (i.e., one that can play PAL and SECAM in addition to the inferior NTSC format used in the USA), the picture quality for DVDs is so much better than on the Sony Bravia that there is really no comparison.

In addition, of course, the Sony Bravia series has significant fading problems when viewed from the side, and it is grossly inferior in this respect to Plasma and normal non-HD TV sets.

(2) Screen. The high gloss screen and plastic borders are totally unsuited to TV viewing. A Matte screen and non-glare borders would provide far more comfortable viewing in all but a darkened theater situation. Any light source reflects off the screen, and is worse than for a regular non-HD TV. In this respect, Plasma TVs are vastly superior.

(3) Sound. The sound is OK most of the time, but there are periodic and inexplicable dropouts, as well as hissing and popping, problems that are not helped by changing the connections to HDMI. There is something fundamentally wrong with the sound system on the Sony 40V5100, and Sony better fix it fast if they don't want a class-action lawsuit. Sound levels also vary markedly from channel to channel for reasons that are not immediately apparent.

(4) Controls. The remote control is awkward to operate, with switching from TV to DVD to PC taking up to 15 seconds. Similarly, it takes about 15 seconds for the TV to turn on, once you have pressed the "on" button for a sufficiently long time to persuade the little green "power on" light to finally put in an appearance. When changing channels, the lengthy handshake procedure results in a two-second delay from HD to HD, and five seconds from HD to non-HD, and often a green screen before the next channel displays. Once again, why am I supposed to view this as an improvement over a regular non-HD TV, where channel changing is virtually instantaneous?

In sum, the Sony Bravia series is a big disappointment. Its one indisputable advantage is that, in comparison to Plasmas and non-HD TVs, it is very light, so when the time comes to throw it away, it won't present a heavy lifting problem. I still have a couple of serviceable Sony WEGA non-HD TV's. They aren't as good as the old Trinitrons from the 1990's, but at least they are tolerable. I'm going to see how long I can keep them going. The Sony Bravia is going too, right out the door.

I have a request for anyone reading this review: please let me know when someone finally produces a decent HDTV. As far as I can tell, no one has accomplished this feat quite yet.

It is impresive as soon as you plugin and watch TV on it, it is outstanding, since the picture quality is not compared to my 720p former Sharp LCD screen... I have PS3 and a Sony HT, and they interact really good, as well as the remote controls, they TV's work with the PS3.
The games with the Motion Flow, as well as Bluray movies are out of this world, the movies look so good that it seems that you are watching through a window than a TV screen. It looks so good that you can see special effects flaws and details not seen on my other TV.
The PS3 resolution changed like 200% better with the sony, and the motion flow helps a lot when changing scenes on a fast action game.
I updated the firmware connecting it to my router at home, it was simple, and the internet features as the gadgets, YOUTUBE, are ratter awesome, it is a huge leap on tv functionalities not present on the past.
I have windows 7 on my computer and I have no problem on viewing my pictures from my tv! as well as listening to the music and watching video files as well!
I did alter some of the custom settings on the screen and the image is nothing compared as any other TV screens on the market.

This TV has a really great picture. It is the right size for my bedroom. There is a problem with the sound. The sound on the digital channels is lower than the regular channels. When I turn it up for the digital, it is then too loud for the regular channels. It is something I can put with, but is an annoyance. Don't know if this is true of all of the tv's of this model. Vizio says this is because of our cable system, but my other two LCD's do not have this problem.

Between work, home and for my parents I have purchased four of these Panasonics. They have a good quality image and easy to use and connect. The SD card player is super slow so don't buy it for that (we rarely use it) and the iPod connector seems cool but we've never used it. Remote control is good and easy, my 70's parents can easily navigate. It get's surprisingly great reception of free broadcast HD Television signal from an antenna, DVD's and Blu-rays look great also. It's a simple 720 HD TV for reasonable price and gives superior image to others out there.

I bought this particular TV because of the price -- my mistake. I should know better than to buy something because it's cheaper than the norm. I didn't want an off-brand but I wanted a good price. This purchase proves that you get what you pay for.

This is not a bad TV at all, but not great either. The biggest diappointment is the picture quality. After adjusting many of the picture presets, I was able to get a decent picture, but again, not great. Next time I'll do more research and I'll also be willing to pay more to get what I want.

This is the third Sony TV I purchased. It's for a small spare bedroom and it's a perfect size for watching TV from bed. My only issue is scrolling through my "favorite" channels that I programmed, is a bit cumbersome. My old TV had a special button that would just scroll through the 10 channels that I added as favorites. On the Sony I have to hit the favorite button then use the down button to scroll to the next channel I want to view then hit select. Other than that it's a great TV with great sound and picture. After 4 months of using it I am still very happy with the purchase.

I'm attempting to return this set today, as further viewing with all that red and anemic blue is simply too annoying and can't be corrected. If you don't mind this -- to me -- serious problem, it's your choice. But surely SONY should be able to do better than this.) Purchased from eDirect before I found Amazon's listing. I was swayed by all the 5-star reviews at Amazon (nowadays, as viewed in showroom setups, there's no way to judge image quality). The mosquito noise seen in showrooms appears in my living room as well, though it's not as prominent as on other LCD's. As for comments about "great color", I'm not sure what that oft-used phrase is supposed to mean; this tv is deficient in Blue and has a 25% Red push that glows like neon and often bleeds like the reds on dirt-cheap store brand CRT's. The SONY at least has RGB adjustments, although RGB Gain can only be reduced, not increased -- a really odd design. In one picture mode, Red is pushed 34%, which looks bizarre but which apparently appeals to "great color" enthusiasts. Sadly, SONY doesn't provide color Y-level controls, not even in the miniscule service menu. In Cinema/Warm Mode the grayscale RGB is admirably flat except for a typically elevated Blue "leg" from 40-IRE on down; most LCD's have such grayscales, ostensibly to make blacks look darker (actually, it just makes blacks look blue, not black. The value R16G16B16 (digital black) is a color rarely seen on HDTV's). After some drastic and very tricky RGB adjustments with help from a colorimeter and HCFR software, blacks looked more neutral and the Red push was made at least tolerable, but high-red gamma suffered somewhat. At least it kept most skin tones from looking like terminal cases of third-degree burn, although fair-skinned people often have an unsightly hot-pink tint. The overall image is suitably contrasty and sharp, and SD sources look much cleaner than with most LCD's. With HD and SD, there's some noisy moire in fine-grained objects like sequinned gowns and heavy wool coats, and shimmer when very high-contrast objects move. But those effects are common on many LCDs. Low-IRE gamma is a bit aggressive, making some darks look rather inky, especially with BluRay; thankfully there's a backlight control that helps a bit. Motion is mostly handled well, even without 120-hz gimmicks (which don't work anyway, because refresh rate isn't the source of LCD motion blur). Turn off noise reduction, which adds its own artifacts and makes motion blur worse. Thankfully I haven't seen judder or stutter so far, but I saw a mild case of upscaling jaggies. With a pristine image source, the overall picture is better than average and looks quite sharp and snappy, without phony edge enhancement. I measured the real-world contrast at around 2100:1, an impressive figure, with excellent darks and crisp whites: black and white movies play nicely. Less perfect sources (low contrast, noisy, low-density scenes in fog, heavy rain, etc.) just look smeared and murky -- this is digital video's fault, not SONY's. BluRay looks very punchy and sharp, though BR compression artifacts are easy to spot. As far as a generally cleaner image is concerned, SD-DVD looks much better on this set than on other 26-inchers I've seen. At this size, the difference between 720 lines and 1080 couldn't be seen, even with a 37" 1080p sitting beside it. If your BluRay player outputs 720i or 720p, set it that way; HD-DVD downscaling doesn't play well here. The tuner is fairly fast; channel cruising is a bit slow, but I've seen much worse. Setup instructions warn that channel scanning takes 50 minutes; my scan found 100-plus cable stations in 12 minutes. Audio ain't great, but it's cleaner and louder than averege and works well from its coax output (but no headphone jack!). Viewing angle is narrow, about 15 degrees either side, a tad wider than some others. Overall I'd say it's an above-average LCD, aided by limited RGB controls but marred mostly by annoying Reds and absent the full-featured CIE adjustments found on some sets. It nicely replaces the average low-quality generic 20" or 24" CRT. But if your old, higher-end smallish CRT still works well and can be calibrated, stick with the tube.

We have never had a large screen TV and were using a RCA 24' from 1987. My wife and son went to Costco in search of a 32" LCD to greatly enhance our movie watching experience. We're not big on HD cable so that wasn't a consideration. Once in the Costco store they perused the TV section and after finding the 32" we were after they set out to do the shopping and would come back at the end to pick it up. Once they had the cart full, they returned about 40 minutes later to get the LCD. My son wandered down the isle to the front of our 42" Samsung. They had just put the clearance sticker on and as it was a floor model the price was $480.00, a mere 20 dollars more than the 32" LCD. Needless to say a no-brainer. I never realized watching a movie at home could be so engaging as watching it through our PS3 blueray. I would recommend this set to any one, and the difference between the 720 and 1080 is a sales ploy. I don't doubt there are differences if your watching a 60inch screen. This is an amazing TV, and for the price it was one of the best purchases we have ever made, hands down!

I just got this 42" Samsung Plasma TV (Model: PN42B450) about a month ago from Best Buy, and I have a $70 Sony DVD player that has HDMI out hooked up to it and ICE-AGE 3 (widescreen) looks awesome! on it, and that's with the Picture settings on the TV set at: Mode Standard, Cell Light 4, Contrast 80, Brightness 43, Sharpness 50, Color 50, Tint G50/R50, and in Advanced Settings I have the Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, and Edge Enhancement turned off.

Also, the color and black levels on this Plasma TV look very good!

Okay I've been doing some research and reading all the reviews. Firstly, I've owned Samsung HTV's before and have always been happy with their equipment. During my review of a bedroom replacement HDTV I came across the Samsung PN42B450. Since I recently removed all my cable boxes in the house except for the HDTV/DVR (Comcast Georgia) I needed a HDTV with a built-in tuner to scan Comcast signals using IRC. Thankfully this HDTV rocks and found everything I originally had and even though some channels aren't HD picture quality is still amazing.

If you need a HDTV and have Cable feel confident in knowing this HDTV will indeed pickup all your Cable (unscrambled) channels... not just 12 but I'm talking about 130!! I don't have anything else added to it yet but looking into a DVD/R and will update accordingly. FYI Audio Output is indeed optical only so beware for your bedroom home theater people... you might need to upgrade.

I just received my Samsung HD-TV this morning and it is wonderful. The set-up was really easy from attaching the stand to the on-screen menu's The picture quality is great and the sound quality is better than I expected. I upgraded from a CRT 1080i HDTV to this TV. I was doing the upgrade for a safety issue (Massive cords sticking out of the TV and no console could hold the TV, isn't great for little kids)... I really wasn't thinking it would be that much of a difference going from one HDTV to another. I was very wrong. This is a fantastic TV that made regular DVDs look like HD DVD. The Set-up was super easy. The only knocks are the sound and the preset brightness levels. The sound can't seem to level out the difference components of a movie or TV show. For example: The voice of the actor of the movie is the same level as the background noise, making it very difficult to hear the actor. We have the benefit of having a receiver with a 5.1 speaker set-up, so this problem doesn't bother me, but it would if I didn't have this. Second, the dynamic picture setting tends to be too bright but he movie is too dark. So, it depends what I'm watching as to what I place the settings on. Overall, I love this TV and the price is excellent. I didn't know what I was missing in a picture till I bought this.

This was my first flat screen. After about 2 weeks of online research and visiting many stores. I chose this one. The unit is in a small room and is not my primary TV (but it should be). Great picture and sound, easy to set up. I use it for both general viewing and gaming. I have not experienced power cord issues as have been mentioned in other reviews. It arrived on time at a great price from Amazon. I did connect a set of computer speakers w/subwoofer, but it was more for a rumble effect while gaming. I think the internal speakers are the best I have ever heard.

This is a great, very nice looking HD LCD TV for a very good price. I originally bought the 27 inch Samsung 1080p at Costco, but found it a little small for the space. I was a little hesitant because of the 720p, but I found that this TV actually has a better picture quality than the 27inch 1080p, and its the same price as I payed at Costco (once you factor in taxes and state fees that you do not have to pay at Amazon). The size is perfect, the picture is great (with an HDMI cable) and the sound is also much sharper on this TV than the one I returned to Costco. I even linked my Roku to pandora and am playing it through this tv...sounds great! My one and only complaint is that the remote control is unnecessarily large. Otherwise...this is a great TV for a great price.

I have had this TV for about 2 months and really am enjoying it. It has a great picture and color clarity. Works well with DVD, VHS, blu-ray/ PS3, wii, and a computer hooked up. I have all of this hooked up constantly and there were plenty of different types of ports to make it all work. The only negative is the menu system. For some things you have to go through 3 or 4 screens to get to the setting that you want. Not a huge deal, but it could be better.

1080 true p awesome picture wizard to set it up. 2 hdmi ports usb port to connect your ipod and play music right from your tv. great digital sound system. you cant get much better than this for the price!ohh and a headphone jack incase u wanna play movies late and not disturb others plus ethernet and aloso rgb soo it can be used as an computer monitor. its a great tv dont let anyone tell you diff ^^
