This clock is excellent for a bare bones digital clock. When I first plugged it in, the time was less than one second off atomic time. I have plugged and unplugged the clock many times the past 6 months and the time is now about 26 seconds faster than actual time. The time and calendar can be manually adjusted--read the manual.

The Daylight Saving Time can be disabled for portions of the U.S. which do not observe DST. The DST setting can be set to the new DST rules or old DST rules in the unlikely event Congress decides to go back to the old rules. By default, the clock is set to the new DST rules.

In case of power failure, the display will turn off, but the clock will still run and the alarm will sound if the alarm is activated.

The clock uses 4 LR44 batteries as backup. The manual says the batteries last 3 years before needing replacement. When changing the batteries, leave the clock plugged in. This way, you won't need to manually reset the time and calendar.

The downsides to this clock are the blinking colon ":" and the display is bright. There is no dimmer switch.

I love the clock. I read the reviews that said the alarm was too soft to be heard when you are asleep but I don't use it as an alarm clock so that doesn't bother me. I can see it from across the room and it isn't too bright to be distracting.

In the past several months, it has steadly lost time. I do not like the fact that you cannot reset the time. I have several other automatic (atomic) clocks and they work fine. I'm going to trash this one, I would not even donate it to a thrift store because of its inaccuracies.

I love the clock. I bought it to replace one I had at the end of our family room that had digital numbers that were 5/8" high. Even with new correct prescription glasses, I was having trouble reading the numbers on the old digital clock.

This clock, NO PROBLEM! I could read these numbers half a football field away. However, I found after a couple of days and evenings, there was something about the clock that was annoying me. At first I couldn't figure out what it was. Then I realized what was bugging me. It was the constantly flashing colon. It seemed so domineering. It was like it was demanding your attention. There's no way to turn it off. But I found a "work-around" and what a difference! I trimmed two small pieces of black electrical tape and very carefully put them over the colon so the colon disappears and you can still see all of the number segments just fine. Now it is great! Not nearly as intrusive. Maybe the flashing colon won't bother you, but if it does, now you have a solution. I am very happy with it now!

This is a basic radio alarm clock. Easy to use, good sound quality. The green light is a bit too strong at night that I have to move it away. Overall, it is good enough for me in my bedroom.

The clock is quite smart looking, the LED numbers are easy to view, especially at night, they glow green .
The radio has very good sound quality and it can be turned up to LOUD so that it blares in the morning to wake me up. It is easy to use, but in my opinion, the Buzzer feature is not very useful (if you are a heavy sleeper), best to use the Radio as the alarm.
I am very happy with the clock, it's become an integral part of my life, I really like waking up to the music and it was very cheap and of v good quality...has even survived a couple of bumps and bruises.
And I don't know if this is a feature of just my clock specifically or all those that are available, but I have to keep it plugged in all the time. It doesn't seem to have a battery ( or didn't come with one and I didn't put one in).
All in all, go for it!

PROS;
Battery backup.
Time is set at factory and set correctly, just change to your local time zone and it's running.
Automatically changes time to follow daylight saving time. Cool! One less clock to change twice a year!
Alarm is very easy to set and change daily if necessary.
Easy to read in the dark, yet not too bright, just right.
Good sized buttons for the snooze and off functions.
Small footprint fits nicely on nightstands.
So good I bought a second one for the other side to the bed.
Recommend to anyone at this price point.

I bought this Sony radio alarm clock to replace a Timex I had for 16 years- it has way better sound and reception than the old Timex. One feature I miss from the Timex is that the radio played for 2 hours after sounding as the alarm- this Sony plays for an hour. The Timex was easier to set time with push buttons on top but once I got used to the + and - buttons it was OK- there's much more prep work with this clock that's necessary before you can set the alarm. Overall I'm satisfied with the quality and value and am keeping it.

iPod, Radio, or Buzzer Alarm
Wake to your docked iPod, the radio, or--if you must--a classic buzzer alarm. Whichever you choose, a gradual alarm feature gently raises the alarm volume, so it\'s not too jarring. Dual alarm lets you set separate wake times.

The 7-5-2 alarm setting means you can set separate wake times, either for every day or separate weekday/weekend times. You also can wake to the playlist or song of your choice.

The alarm also boasts a number of features to ensure you get up in the morning. Battery backup means you\'ll still get up in the event of a power failure, and Alarm Reset turns off the alarm and automatically resets it for the same time the following day. If you select to wake to iPod but no iPod is docked, you\'re still covered--the iH9 will sound the buzzer instead.

Sleep Features
In designing the iH9, iHome paid special attention to the other end of the alarm clock equation--going to bed. Sleep to iPod or radio, with programmable sleep times of 120, 90, 60, 30, or 15 minutes. Gentle Sleep gradually decreases the music volume as you drift off to dreamland.

What\'s more, an Adjustable Sleep volume solves an old alarm clock problem, allowing you to select a comfortable sleep volume level without affecting the wake to or listening volume levels.

Programmable Snooze
The iH9\'s programmable snooze feature allows you to set snooze intervals of 1 to 60 minutes, so you can milk every last second of sleep before you\'re late for work.

Play and Charge Your iPod
The iH9\'s Universal dock plays and charges most docking iPod models (in addition to using them for alarms). So when you do finally wake up, your iPod will have a full charge as you head out the door.

iHome iP9 Clock Radio for iPod and iPhone (black)

I bought this product for each of my two Grandchildren. It was an excellent choice for them to take to college in the fall. It has proven to be everything they had hoped it would be. They are so pleased with the sound and the ease of use.

Otherwise a nice product, the volum wheel stopped working after about 1 year. I have read many of the same complaints, all the way back to the iH5. They should have fixed this defect by now. Only buy this if you want to only be able to use the remote to change the volume, which is a pain, especially at night in the dark.

The product was ok when it worked, but it is very cheaply constructed and broke after one year. The volume and tuner dials are the problem. Also, the tuner dial is extremely annoying. If you want to set your alarm 12 hours from the currently set time, you have to spin this dial several hundred times. While it might burn calories, it's not quite my preference for exercise. In fact, you may get a repetitive stress injury setting your alarm. I am now going to buy another alarm clock (obviously a different kind). I should have spent more money on a quality alarm clock the first time around.

I bought this clock on a whim, and am I glad that I did! I had just gotten a 160 GB iPod Classic, so I was rather worried about whether or not my iPod would fit with this clock. It was not a problem at all. When setting up, just be sure to carefully follow thie instructions for setting up the iPod charging cradle. Once that cradle is in there, it's very difficult to get it back out again - so if you have one iPod that you use more than the others and they are of different sizes, then you will need to decide which one you will use for the iHome iH9.

I live out in a log cabin in the woods and sometimes getting any radio station at all can be a challenge. Surprisingly, I am able to get my regular AM and FM stations with no hassle whatsoever and they come in clearly and sound great!

The alarm clock is great, I love the dual alarm settings that are easy to reset for those days when you are going to get up at a slightly different time than normal. I am not too crazy about the actual tone that the almarm uses. The various dimmer setting for the clock are really nice. I like the remote control that came with it, though I haven't had too much opportunity to use it, the reange is adequate enough to control the unit from across a large room. The ease of use of this clock is definitely a nice plus. A great clock radio for the price.

I just got this today and I noticed 2 things off the bat that I wasn't expecting.

The first is the color of the clock wasn't what I expected, the silver around the top and bottom looks more of a blueish silver on my computer screen and in person it's pure grey. I know it's not my moniter that much because the blue in the middle looks identical to the picture. This kind of sucks because I bought it for how it looks.

The second thing I noticed is it has a night light on it, which is nice, but it doesn't work so well. I had to push it (off and on until it was actually on without me holding it) 10 times to get it to turn on. It'd turn on when I held it on but when I let go it'd go off, must be a short in a wire or something, I don't know much about wiring. I bought it brand new so I expected everything to work on it.

Overall though, it was cheap and I didn't need the night light anyways, I am going to keep it, it's not worth the hassle of returning it at this price; but I wanted to warn anyone else thinking about buying it.

I'm not sure if it was a shipping error or that the SPC019 has been replaced with the SPC020, but the latter is the clock I received. It looks identical to the one pictured here - silver and blue wedged shaped clock, red LED display. My guess is that the SPC020 is what Amazon is shipping if you order this clock since many of the reviewers mention the night light and dual volume settings which are features of the SPC020. The technical specs on this page indicate that the clock should tell "month, date, day of week and temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit" but that is not the case, at least with the SPC020. No matter, it does tell the time with a bright display which is what a digital clock should do. The buttons are large and easy to use. The night light feature is fantastic - I ended up putting this clock in my son's room and it replaced his plastic plugin night light. This is a very nice clock at a very reasonable price. Just be aware that you may be getting a slightly different (and in my opinion better) model than the one that is listed.

Two shortcomings. I ordered it because I read somewhere that it has an external antenna, so I thought I could hook up a simple dipole. Well, I guess what they meant was that, as with many radios, the power cord (which I guess is external) is the antenna on FM. Oh well, better than nothing for fiddling the reception.

The second issue is that, as I think others have noted, it arrives with a dead battery, which kind of obviates the backup feature. So if you're looking for that, get a fresh 2032 battery too. Not exactly the kind of customer-friendly service I would have expected from Sony and Amazon.

But bottom line, for the price, I'm glad to have it.

Well it only cost about $12 - and it's worth it I guess.

I've tried much more expensive alarm clocks that are even worse.

Display can be dimmed for night use - not really dim enough, but better than some. I think the engineers who design these things must never actually test them as, well, alarm clocks.

The self-setting time feature is worthless. Expect to set it yourself, as we did.

Buttons on top have very little tactile feel and it's difficult to tell one from another till you get the hang of it. We've had the clock a couple months and I still hit the wrong button sometimes.

Sound quality is even worse than many other clock radios I've had - but so what, it wakes us up.

Tuner discrimination is atrocious. Stations merge together in a staticky mess unless you get it dead on. After mucking with it we were able to set it to wake to NPR, so I guess we're happy.

Overall - It gets the job done. Don't expect too much.

This alarm clock offers lots of nice features for the price. I love the automatic time setting and battery backup. It's also got one of the least annoying alarm tones I've heard. All in all, it's very easy to use. I just wish the brightness of the display was adjustable, because it's rather bright when you're trying to sleep, so I end up putting my tissue box in front of it. On the plus side, though, the large digits are very easy to read.

The first one arrived and was not automatically set. Setting the time and date was straight forward and easy. The "low battery" indicator came on shortly after setting the time. The manual instructed to replace the battery with a fresh CR2032. I purchased a new battery. The light stayed on. Pulling the plug with the alarm set, it failed to sound. I plugged it back in and the time had reset to midnight.

I called Sony Support and waited a long time. When someone answered, they asked a few questions like "Did you replace the battery?" They then determined the unit was defective.

As usual, Amazon was terrific about replacing it.

The replacement arrived working properly and meets expectations. The radio could be better but I did not buy it for the radio. The dual alarms are easy to set. The display can be dimmed down to almost off, great for those who can't sleep with any light in the room.

Clock is fine, works well, found it easy to use and nice large display, easy to see in the dark. Innovative separate alarm settings which are very useful. Radio is surprisingly high quality and the buttons are all sensible. Everything I wanted in a simple clock, and the price is actually very fair after looking at local electronic shops. One complaint, seller (not Amazon) must have shipped very old stock and battery (hence auto time function) was DOA which reduced one star. Having to buy this battery and replace it myself is a pain.

I held off for a long time in purchasing a clock radio/iphone dock. The Philips looked quality and the reviews seemed to back that up. However I should have listened to the concerns regarding the button placement. However that turned out to be just one of the issues with this unit. Pros and cons:

Pros:

-Impressive sound quality for the size of the unit.
-Good build quality.
-Radio alarm starts low in volume and raises gradually. This was important as I hate being startled awake.
-Works with 3G. However I would occasionally get the "this device does not work with your phone, etc..." But that seemed to be an anomaly.
-Brightness is adjustable.

Cons:

-Button placement is terrible. You have to feel your way when changing settings unless you want to get up and turn the unit around. Furthermore all the buttons feel the same and are bunched up together. I guess I've gotten the hang of it but it's still a hassle.
-The alarm has not gone off twice(admittedly via pilot error.) It turns out if you accidentally tune your radio to between channels (and you end up with static/noise/poor signal) and your alarm is set for *radio* it won't go off - AT ALL. One would think it would play the staticy radio signal or at least resort to a back up beep tone for the alarm.
-Plugging in the iphone can be tricky. The phone doesn't readily align with the dock. Granted this is the case with a lot of the docks I've played with at the store.
-The clock's font is really bad and not the easiest to read. You get used to it however.
-No battery back-up. I know the Sonys don't have that either. What's up with that?

I got this from Amazon through my credit card's points reward system, thus I didn't even try to return it. Disappointing and not recommended.

I bought this as a gift for my husband who desperately needed an alarm clock, but also is obsessed with his iphone and needed a dock/charger, way to listen to his music when getting ready in the morning (for both of us, well, me) and for a clean modern look to go with our home decor. It has not disappointed. The sound is pretty good and the price was mid-range so I wasn't upset about that. The alarm clock turn set up/ turn off was a little weird, but I figured it out with no manual but it could've been a bit better designed. Not a bad product, I definitely recommend. I also own some other Philips electronics and haven't had any major issues, so they do make a quality product.

Simple and BIG. It looks good, dimmer is a valued feature. Relatively small foot print on your night stand. Radio reception was good for me. Bottom line your basic clock that you can see from the otherside of the bed!!

I have been using this alarm clock for 6 months now and I couldn't be happier. After years of searching for the right alarm clock I finally found it.

Positives:
1) I can see the display! I have moderately poor vision (glasses prescription is -3.75) and if I wake up in the middle of the night I can clearly see the time with this clock at my bedside. The green light plus the large numbers are very clear.
2) The progressive alarm wakes up even my heavy-sleeping husband. The first few beeps are slow and they gradually speed up to grab the attention of the heaviest sleepers.
3) You don't have to set the time! What more can I say? You set the timezone, plug it in, and it sets the time. It even catches daylight savings.
4) If the power goes out the small battery saves your alarm settings so when the power comes back on, the clock resets itself and you still have your alarms ready to go. This has saved me from being late to work more than once after a late night power outage.
5) The display light is adjustable. I've had green/blue alarm clocks before and the display was so bright it practically light up the whole room. The dim setting is fine at night, I can see it but it's not acting like a flood light, and I can still see the display just fine during the day too on the dim setting. Though during daylight hours I do have to get a little closer to the clock to see it.
6) I love the full 10 minute snooze. I don't understand why other clocks have a 7 or 9 minute one.
7) You can turn off the alarm when it's in snooze-mode, you don't have to wait for the alarm to go off again.

Neutrals:
1) The radio isn't great, lots of static and the speakers don't sound perfect. But I wasn't buying a radio, I was buying an alarm clock so that doesn't really matter to me. If you want a radio go buy a radio. *shrug*
2) The alarm isn't terribly loud. This is counter-acted by the progressive alarm beeping.
3) It's a little bit large, but for the big display numbers I assume that's kind of necessary.

Cons:
I really don't have anything bad to say about this clock.

One other note:
Some people have mentioned in their reviews that you cannot set the snooze back to 10 minutes if you go too far. If this happens wait until the snooze display clears off (takes a few seconds) then re-hit the snooze button, this will reset it to 10 minutes.

If you are looking for a no frills, get the job done, easy to read, affordable, clock/radio this is perfect. The radio sound quality isn't so great but fidelity doesn't matter in this case. It wakes me up, displays the time in large numbers, and is easy to use.

I was looking for a simple, no frills alarm clock and found it with the Sony C-414. It is easy to set, easy to use and I like that you can adjust the brightness on the display. Given that I don't see well without my glasses, the large numbers are a plus for viewing in the middle of the night. My kids are of the age where they now want alarm clocks, and I will definitely buy the same one for them.

The clock is appealing due to it's large green illuminated numbers. The switches are easily accessible on the top of the clock and are limited in number. The automatic time syncronization is a fantastic feature - you'll never worry about setting time again. The radio is clear and sounds rich in tone.

I'd been looking for a small alarm clock that did not appear to have been designed in 1983.

Pros:
Small, cool design, several smart features, including "alarm check" which lets you easily check if your alarm is set properly.
Good alarm volume.

Cons: No brightness setting. A little too easy to accidentally snooze -- "Off" is right next to "snooze." Design is a little bit more "dorky" than cool. 7-day setting can be annoying to set up at first, especially if you do not need different times every day. No big deal, though.

I like it.

Very good on all levels; sound quality, small footprint; easy to access controls; straight-forward programming, display is easily viewed. My only complaint is that when the radio alarm activates there is a 'pop' noise which can be startling to some degree, but you get used to it. Considering all the problems this innovative design solves, it is a winner.

The ratchet knob on the top sets the time a minute per click, so it really takes a lot of work to set a time 12 hours, but it does the job. The radio isn't really that great but I can get local stations ok. I took the clock apart and wired it to activate a fire buzzer when the alarm goes off. The only parts I needed was a reed relay, some wire and a switch. Now I can really wake up with a serious alarm. (any day of the week)

I purchased this clock based on its good reviews. While it was very easy to set up (great that it sets the time itself), the "radio" function on the alarm would never come on. The buzzer worked, but we don't like waking to a buzzer. I returned it and requested another one, figuring the first was just defective. The second one turned out to be dysfunctional as well. The "radio" alarm did work on this one -- sometimes. It did not always come on when set (even at the same time/settings every weekday). I'm not going to try a third...call me silly, but I kind of expect an alarm clock to wake me up!

This alarm clock was really easy to set up. I just plugged it in, adjusted my time zone, verified the year and date, and set my alarm. You can set the alarm to go off Monday-Friday, Saturday-Sunday, or Monday-Sunday. I was under the impression when I purchased this that I would be able to set one alarm for Mon-Fri and a second for Sat-Sun, however looking over the description again it clearly states that it has a single alarm. Obviously this was my mistake but I wanted to point this out just in case you missed it as well.

There are a couple negatives, but they are minor. First is the cord length, it isn't a very long cord so if your plug is far away you might need to pull out an extension cord. The cord reaches from the nightstand to roughly the middle of a queen size bed. I also don't love the material. They just seems a little on the cheap side.

I purchased the Emerson SmartSet alarm clock, looking for a time that is displayed visually through out a room. The SmartSeet feature allows for plug and use (that fast) with the capacity to change time zones with the same feature if you relocate. In the manual,this suggusts that you do not use with light switchs for longevity of the product. If your looking for a clock this has a good view, small for suitablity or placement in your home works as stated.

My husband and I bought 2 (one for each side of the bed) a few years ago and we are in our mid to late 20s. They were on clearance for 14.99. That should have been my first clue, huh?

I have used the mp3 feature a few times but it is when in the bedroom folding laundry; not to wake up to the ipod (because it has to stay on to work which can kill batteries and there is no charging station). Turning on the ipod through the alarm clock is WAY more complicated than it should be. As a result, I find it much easier to bring my iSymphony ipod speakers (awesome by the way, but that is another review) into the room for tasks like that.

For DST, we only use the "off" switch and manually program it because we do not trust "auto", with good reason. But, if you want to only program once a year, turn off and then in the spring when changing all of the other clocks, slide to +1, and it will automatically change correctly. Then, turn back to off in the fall and manually reset back an hour.

We have noticed that the time seems to get off easily between the 2 alarm clocks. So, periodically, we reset both to the exact same time (per cell phone). As of last week, my husband's is now 4 minutes faster than mine and mine is 1 minute slower than the cell phone.

Another feature I don't like is that I cannot set 2 alarms - one for the week days (i.e., 5:30) and one for the weekend (i.e., 8:30). If you have a job where the hours are not just Monday-Friday, this is not the alarm clock for you. With my husband's job he sometimes had to work weekends so he just uses his cell phone alarm for those days. I don't work Fridays, so I just turn the buzzer alarm off Thursday night. So, that is no big deal if there is one day during the week that you don't work.

In addition, there are a numerous times I hit snooze just to shut it up quickly (because it is a big button), then press off (small button right next to snooze), get out of bed and leave the room, and the alarm goes off 10 or so minutes later. the off button seems to stick a little. This is also a bad feature. Oh, and I also don't like that when I turn the volume down (i.e., listening to my ipod), it also turns the buzzer volume down. What if I forget when using the ipod to turn the volume back up? I would not trust this alarm clock if you live alone, are the only adult in the house, or other adults in the house are not on the same schedule as you to make sure that you wake up to go to work as a backup.

After my last day of work this week, we walked into the bedroom and my alarm clock light was out so you can't see the time unless you are right up on it because it is now black on black instead of amber on black. We tried all of the usual suspects - batteries, bad outlet, maybe the cat hitting some button. When it was plugged into a different outlet, the display lit up for a minute or so and then went out again. So, I don't know what the deal is with that. An alarm clock that is not readable is worthless and is the final straw.

Bought this despite the negative reviews. Boy, did I make a big mistake. I hadn't even had the clock for 5 hours yet and it quit telling time. Just stuck at 7:51pm on December 26th. What a piece of garbage!

I bought this clock last year. Initially i loved it. You can change the displace background color and the numbers are large and easy to read. Im giving it a one star because the time is always wrong. What good is a clock if the time is never accurate? I check the time on this alarm clock against my phone and computer every week. The alarms clock is always 4 to 5 mins faster.

I have a problem waking up in the morning and so I use a couple of alarms.

This alarm allows one to have different colors for display which is good but I wonder how useful it is.

Con:
The plastic makes it look cheap but that is not a reason to complain either.
The volume level is fixed : not as loud as I thought.

Somewhere not worth the price. But guess thats what $11 can give.

I just needed to be able to see the time in one room of my house that has no other clocks. I didn't need any special features, so I bought this inexpensive alarm clock. It was very easy to setup. There wasn't any guesswork; just slide the appropriate switches to the setting you want and press the associated button.

The problem is, it is sometimes hard to read, especially if there is a light source nearby. It causes a glare on the lens, making it unreadble. I actually spent more time finding a place to put it where glare would not be a factor than I did setting it up.

The multiple background colors do nothing for me and there seems to be not enough contrast against the backligting. The numbers are distinguishable against the backlit color, but because the numbers are blue on a blue background (for example), they aren't distinguisable enough.

If price is a factor, go with this one. Otherwise check out some other products.

We like this alarm clock radio so much that we buy it for a gift to high school graduates and friends. I can see it at night without my glasses on. It has two alarm settings and lights to show whether it's set for Monday through Friday or the weekend. This clock radio resets itself after we lose power and automatically when the time springs forward or falls back. I wish all our clocks in our house and cars worked like this. One day they will. It's refreshing to find a product that improves the quality of life and does not cost an arm and a leg.

Everything I was looking for. The auto time set is a great feature. The display is easy to see and the wave feature allows you to sleep without light in the room. With just a wave on a hand it lights up and turn off in seconds. The alarm can be set for weekdays only so no chance it will wake you up over the weekend because you forgot to turn it off.
Overall a great product for a very reasonable price.

I have almost six months experience with this now, having picked it up for myself while out Christmas shopping last year. It's the kind of thing that's more impressive in person than in a picture online; I don't think I would have chosen this one if I hadn't actually seen it first.

The main things I love about this clock radio are the large buttons and number display. I'm very nearsighted, and never before in my life have I had a clock I could read from bed so easily without my glasses--no more scrunching to the edge of the bed, pulling the clock close and squinting. The numbers are almost unbelievably large. It's also very easy to memorize the position and feel of the on/off and sleep buttons. When it's dark and you're groggy, they're easy to find. My previous clock radio, which had a lot more features, had many small buttons which were almost flush to the top surface, and everything was the same silver color. It looked very snazzy, but I was always hitting the wrong button.

It's true that tuning the radio can be tricky, but I grew up with analog tuning and it wasn't too hard to get the knack back. If you have the patience, you can get pretty decent reception of surprisingly distant stations, especially AM stations at night. I'm down in the Philadelphia area, but can reliably get 740 AM in Toronto and 1030 AM in Boston, which can be more fun to listen to before bed than local radio. I use the sleep button pretty often, which turns the radio off in about 30 minutes. It's easy to reset for another 30 minutes. Because the stations I listen to at night will be hardly audible in the morning, I use the beeping alarm, which seems loud enough to me.

It's larger and heavier than you might expect, but it doesn't have a large footprint on your nightstand. It stands vertically and is kind of triangular at the base, so you can put in on a corner, leaving the rest of the surface free. The heft and shape of it make it hard to tip over--which is a good thing if you have a cat like mine, who likes to climb around our heads in the mornings. He hasn't knocked it over yet!

The alarms are easy to set, and it's easy to see at a glance whether the alarms are set and for what time. On my old one, I would have had to go through a routine of holding several tiny buttons down at the same time to see each alarm setting. I've been through one automatic daylight savings time switch-over, and it worked flawlessly.

The only thing I miss is an earphone jack, but it's a trade-off I'm willing to live with.

I've been using this alarm clock for about 10 months now.

I had a few problems with other alarm clocks. I went thru 3 of them in less than a year before I found this one.

For me, a common problem is that the 'dim' setting is too bright at night.
The option of having it off completely and having to touch it to see the time is not for me. This one dims down real nice. Could be just a tich dimmer for nighttime, but it's dim enough, and way dimmer than a couple others I had.

Seems like most alarm clocks the numbers are too small to read without my glasses. This one I can read.

Often, finding the alarm off button required engaging too much of my brain just after waking up, and on some the switch turns the alarm really 'off'. This one the alarm off button is big and easy to find, and the alarm stays set to ring again the next day if it is supposed to.

Some people thought the volume was too low. Maybe that's true for the 'beeper'. But when I have the radio option selected, and the volume is turned up, it's LOUD. If I get up without turning the alarm off, I can hear that radio EASY all thru that end of the house as I get ready for work.

Changing the alarm times or weekday/weekend 'modes' is very intuitive. Never need the book. For either alarm1 or alarm2, you start by holding down the alarm1 or alarm2 button. That shows the 'mode'. To change the time, press the big up/down rocker button. To change the mode, press the mode button. Done.

I do have 2 small problems with this clock:
1. The analog radio tuner is ultra low tech. It reminds me of the cheap transistor radios I had as a kid many years ago. My advice: find a strong station and let it be. It will work fine. If you try to use a weaker station, within a week or so, you're likely to hear static instead of music when you wake up.

2. I had to disable the 'wave your hand' snooze feature by putting a piece of black tape over the sensor. I have a big window near the west side foot of my bed, and my alarm clock is at the east side head of my bed. If it's light outside when the alarm goes off, any movement by my leg or arm casts a shadow on the alarm and would activate the snooze. Just reaching for the alarm off button would activate the snooze. But the tape fixed that.

I've been looking for a new alarm clock for several years and have tried a few but have always been disappointed. This is the clock I've been waiting for. First, you can set the alarm to go off every day without having to reset it - when you turn it off in the morning it automatically resets for the next day. The alarms can be set to go off regularly on weekdays, weekends or both. I bought one of these for my 14 year old too, and he now has one fewer excuse for not getting up in the morning. Second, you can see immediately if the alarm is set, and for what time, without having to push any buttons. The front display shows clearly if the alarms are off or on. The best feature for me, however, has turned out to be the setting that allows the display to be totally dark until you make a movement somewhere near the clock. I've always liked a very dark room and most clocks are too bright. Any movement, even rolling over in bed can turn the display on if the clock is facing in the right direction. The clock numbers are large, which I need in order to read it withough glasses. I like this clock!

We see this clock from about 18 ft away and still think digits are B-I-G. Very simple setup - No manual needed. After about a month, seems to keep its accuracy. The Green LED is more pleasing to the eye (IMHO) compared to the standard red. I have it under the wall TV on a black entertainment center. The black background makes the clock almost invisible - just the digits show.
Since most often no one listens to the radio in a clock radio, a clock sans radio makes sense especially since most radios in a clock radio are terrible.
If Chaney Instruments cared, my little wish list would be: Eliminate the reflection from the clear plastic front - its a distraction and looks cheap. Also, can the green LEDs be brighter. Sometimes it shows like a fluorescent tube that is losing its fluorescence. IMHO, these two improvements would make the clock classier.

This is an excellent clock with an easy to see display. We're using it in a large room where the large, bright display comes in very handy. But the display can be dimmed in smaller rooms. This has all the usual features of good alarm clock. Very easy to see.

I have had this clock for about a month now, and it's really great. The numbers are large and easy to read. I got this after I got rid of my cable box. Never realized how much I used that thing just for a clock.
This is a great clock, inexpensive, and it definitely gets the job done. I really like the green LED too.
Can't comment on the alarm, as I do not use it.
If you want an easy to read clock that is "simple and clean", this is the one to get.

I bought one of these for my niece for Christmas. From the first time she used it, it was barely audible, and the clock screen would turn off when the iPod was docked. It seemed like unplugging it and plugging it back in would turn the display back on, but that's ridiculous. Also, the "shuffle" and "next song" buttons didn't work. Bought a second one (not from Amazon), and she opened the box to find the faceplate broken. We returned that as well and went with another brand.

On the other hand, I did buy the RCA dock for my other niece, and it had no problems. I think that having only 1 out of 3 working is pretty bad.

Within a week of using this product, it stopped charging my ipod when docked. I called and Audiovox replaced the unit with a refurbished one, which after a few weeks of use doesn't recognize what buttons you are pushing (i.e., push the "ipod" button to play music and it thinks you are attempting to set the clock). What a piece of junk.

I've been looking for a small, inexpensive clock radio to charge and play my iPod. This seemed to be what I needed. When it arrived, I attempted to dock my iPod and was unsuccessful. On the box it says the Apple products it is compatible with and the 5th generation iPod was not listed. The buttons feel cheap. I've attempted to return this item. After a couple of phone calls and emails, Universal Mania has proved to be extremely difficult to contact. I will be submitting a complaint to Amazon.

Well....the old saying that you "get what you pay for" certainly applies here......I figured I would buy this clock radio with Ipod dock for my wife because the price was right and she had been wanting one. It came in and we plugged it in. It literally lasted 4 days and then the adapter on the clock radio broke off......WHAT A PIECE OF JUNK.......

We've had our SmartSet for at least three years and have been thrilled with it! No more having to rollover to see the time or trying to see over my husband's shoulder. The projection feature is terrific in that it is bright and big enough to read without being offensive. We just had my sister-in-law and her husband spend the weekend and let them sleep in our bedroom. They liked the projection feature so much that I ordered one for them the next morning! It would have received five stars but sometimes the radio reception isn't the best. However, we use it more for the projection and alarm features than we do for the radio. It's definitely a good addition to our bedroom!!!

The projector died - now it will not turn off, but what it projects is gibberish. The radio gets terrible reception - no matter where I turn the dial I get interference from the same station. Other radios in the room don't have that problem. Too bad, it's a nice enough design.

This clock is great, it sets in about 3 seconds and displays everything clearly. The projector does NOT work. some of the LEDs are not lighting up (like an old alarm clock). I didn't really care that much since I don't use that feature and it would cost even more to ship it back for a replacement. Overall a good clock, perhaps I can take a look at it and fix it myself.

If you get a clean clock, this is an excellent deal!

It might seem ingenuous to give an item five stars, I mean is anything THAT good? Well I've got to say that this clock radio is that good. You plug it in, tell it what time zone you're in and it sets itself. When we lose the electricity (fairly often in the spring), there is no more blinking "12:00" when the power comes back - the clock just resets itself. The fact that I can set one alarm time for weekdays and a different one for the weekend is perfect too. It is literally a "set it and forget it" clock.

I purchased this product a couple of years ago for our toddlers room. The sound is great from the speakers, and you can play radio, cd, and ipod. However, for the price it is setup poorly. The volume control is way in the back, and there is no battery back up. Come on sony. For the price, it should have a battery back up for when the power goes out.

I own one of these ICF-CD815 units, have used it for over a year. It's simple to use, and sturdy enough.

The product description (unless they've updated it) says it has a DIGITAL AM/FM tuner, which is not correct. It's the low-tech analog dial; you have to "tune by ear" to get the station you want.

The product description also "suggests" it will play a CD-R disk loaded with MP3 files, which is not correct. But you can play a CDR/RW disc burned in regular audio format, which is still fairly useful.

I purchased this product soley because it felt like it was made well. The quality of the unit as a whole seems very nice. Can't believe the quality in this thing for the price. SOLID item, sturdy. I just wanted a CD player that was super small and portable and this fit the bill. Item is still big for clock radio, FYI.

Didn't want a cheap flimsy piece of plastic junk that would break or I had to baby so it wouldn't break. There is SOOO much junk out there now and this isn't like that at all. I just hope the CD player part doesn't die on me in an unreasonable amount of time like some other reviewers wrote about.

We bought this product for playing CDs in my daughter's nursery. The CD player is easy to use, and I like having the time in the room as well. The number display is nice and big but not too bright for a nursery. We are not using the alarm features, so I cannot comment on that.

I bought a Sony ICF CD-815 for my son for Christmas. Worked well, has dual speakers and generally easy to program. All was well until the other night (6 months after purchase) when my son said it wouldn't play CDs any more. Checked out CD's - were OK, cleaned the CD player lens - seemed fine before cleaning, still would not play. CD player makes sounds like the heads are searching and not finding music tracks. CD lamp probably died.
3 month warrantee, CD player dead at 6 months.
Not what I'd call a high quality unit. From what I read of reviews, this is not an unusual experience. Some die quickly, some take a bit longer than the warrantee period. Some last longer. Like I told my son, "I'm sorry, that is a big bummer!"

Things I like about this radio:
Nice big easy to read display.
Very easy to set the time. Once you have your timezone set, if power goes away and the comes back it automatically sets itself to the correct time.
Two alarms.

Things I don't like:
Sound quality of the radio isn't that great. We had a Sony stereo alarm clock radio before this one and it's sound was significantly better.

Overall, I'm happy with this clock radio and I'm glad we bought it.

We've had this for a few weeks now, and it works very well. The two alarms are a great feature. The ability to set either Mon through Friday or Sat and Sun or the whole week is great too. The proof in the pudding is that, since we've set it up, when I knock on my door to wake my son up, he is already awake! I had hesitated buying him an alarm clock because, with the ones we had in the past, he'd just sleep through them. But this dual-alarm with increasing sound volume is doing the trick. I gave it four stars instead of five because it's basically a cheapo alarm clock in the sense of the materials (cheap plastic), the buttons, etc., only bigger and with souped-up features.

This alarm radio is for my daughters so they could wake up on their own - same schedule on the school days. No problem with the clock at all. It picks up the radio channels pretty good. The only thing is that it uses mechanical tuner to tune the radio (even it is digital display), switching between AM & FM will need to search the channel again. Since we set on only one channel, it does not bother us at all.

This does everything an alarm clock needs to do and does it all well, with a few nice extras. There is no iPod doc and no CD player. So what? Its job is to play music for a few minutes every morning when I wake up. I use the stereo for listening to music during the day.

The tuner faithfully pulls in the weak signal of the only Classical station in town. Brightness adjustment is useful. The huge snooze button is clever - one tap snoozes 10 minutes, two taps - 20 minutes, and so on up to 60 minutes. And the alarm stays set every day unless you turn it off... useful for those of us who sometimes forget to set the alarm at night.

The "no power, no problem" feature appears to have worked during the times that a thunderstorm fritzed the neighborhood grid.

I ordered this ICF-C318 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio with Dual Alarm back in May after reading many of the reviews that gave this clock good marks. I won't go into the technical details of this magnificent clock so much since that has already been covered more than enough by some of the great reviews already posted. However, I will tell you exactly what I like about this clock in particular...

A)It is a nice medium-sized and compact clock. There is only so much space on my dresser and I don't want my alarm clock to monopolize the space that I could be filling with something important, like the most recent edition of People Magazine or US Weekly.

B)The dual setting alarm. This clock has options of "Music" and "Buzzer Tone" which makes it fairly nice depending on your preferred style. The music tone plays the radio at the volume you pre-select which is nice. Personally, I use the buzzer tone because I can only wake up to Lady Gaga so many days in a row before I lose my marbles and unceremoniously chuck my alarm clock at the nearest wall. The buzzer is not tremendously loud, but I like it for this very reason. I was looking for an alarm clock that would wake me up, not one that would cause my heart to stop from sheer terror after being awoken from my deep slumber by an outrageously loud alarm.

This clock also has dual alarms, which are both very easy to use and set.

I also enjoy the DST feature, even though I don't quite understand why we have DST in 2010. I'm fairly certain it is an unethical plot set forth by the Big Clock Industry with the hopes of adding DST features to make us pay slightly more for our treasured timepieces, but nonetheless I digress.

To summarize, if you want an alarm clock with these great features and one that will more or less make you have an awesome awakening each morning, I would go ahead and make the purchase.

I love this clock! It projects the time on the ceiling in red. It is very subtle so it does not interfere with sleeping for those of us who like it dark. The only negative is, for it to continuously project, it has to be plugged into the wall. It also operates on batteries, but if you're using batteries, you have to punch a button to make it project the time on the ceiling.

I received this clock from my son a number of years ago, and just love it. The alarm isn't blaring, you can view the time in the middle of the night as it is projected onto the ceiling, there is a snooze button, it sets itself when there is a time change (daylight savings). It's wonderful. I recently ordered a second clock for another bedroom. It was almost the same as the first, but now it tells you the temperature in the room, as well. I really don't care about the temp. in the room, but that's okay. What isn't okay is that there were no instructions on how to set the alarm and the 2nd clock's alarm is set differently than my other clock, though they are both Oregon Scientific clocks. I tried for two hours to figure it out, tried again the next night, and finally succeeded last night (though am not sure how I did it). It would be WONDERFUL if instructions would accompany this clock. C.M. Bethesda, Maryland

This is very compact. Much smaller than I expected. The projection is small on the ceiling also. Not bad but not great either. From reading about it I thought there was a radio also but it's just a clock unless the radio is well hidden in the compact controls.
